Lily's POV

After I'd finished setting up all the explosives, I got the hell out of the building. Chances were that they'd find the body sooner or later and I'd rather be long gone by the time they did.

I also decided that it would be far more beneficial to me to remove the invasive species from the outside of the building as well. Purely so that I could park my motorcycle closer. I didn't want to have to walk as far later. Still, I made sure to keep far enough away from the building for what might potentially follow.

So there I stood, out in the fresh air, bodies scattered about, blood on my clothes, a lollipop in my mouth, and just about every possible scenario for the next twenty-four hours running through my mind. A shrill noise split through the otherwise quiet air.

What hell kind of sound was that? Who didn't put their phone on silent while conducting their questionable activities? What kind of idiot-oh, that's my phone.

I pulled it from my pocket and looked at the name on the screen and instantly recoiled before quickly hanging up. No way was I answering Everly's calls right now. Cause then she'd want to know what I was doing and that . . . was a conversation best left for after I'd figured out what choice had been made.

Although the fact that it was her name that had come across the screen caused me so much relief I felt my legs go weak for a moment. For the first time in the past few days, I felt like could actually breathe once more. She was awake. She'd made it. Thank God.

Although, I knew she would. While it was a running joke that she had a death wish, I knew that actually wasn't the case. That girl's will to live was unbreakable. Sure, she put herself into a lot of life-threatening situations and she'd typically be the first person to risk her life for others, but she never did any of that with the intention of dying.

No. I knew that despite everything she'd lived through, despite all she'd put up with in her life, she didn't want death. She didn't fear it, but there was no way she was welcoming it with open arms.

Still, despite how happy it made me that she was trying to call, there was no way I was answering the phone and telling her my current predicament. She had enough to worry about with the missing agents and Sam. I wasn't about to tell her if Agent 19 was going to be a problem or not. So, I shoved the phone back into my pocket.

However, a moment later, my phone began ringing again. Henri this time. I knew he was likely trying to get a hold of me because of Everly, so logistically speaking, I shouldn't answer. But if I didn't pick Henri's call . . . I shuddered and answered.

"What's up?" I questioned as I wiped a smear of blood off my motorcycle.

"Miss Marshal," Henri said in greeting. "May I ask where you are and why you are not answering Miss Kingston's calls?"

"I could already hear the lecture I was going to get from Ev if I answered her call about where I was. Just know, that I have everything under control," I told him.

Just as I had finished my statement, an explosion echoed out from behind me. I didn't bother turning to look at it. I figured so long at it wasn't strong enough to actually knock me off my feet, it wasn't an issue.

Although, I was very interested in the context behind said explosion, since for once, I wasn't the one who had caused it.

Henri spoke up after a brief moment of silence. No doubt he too had heard the explosion. "Define under control for me, Miss Marshal."

I rolled my eyes knowing full well it was wasted since he couldn't actually see me. "I'm still alive," I replied instead of going with the sarcastic reply that had really wanted to slip from my lips.
