I'll see you again
I haven't touched the cemetery in the whole 478 days she's been gone. After the funeral, it hurt me to even drive past. Altering driving routes, anything that I could do, to avoid it, was done. Now, on December fourth, I'm stepping onto the cemetery grounds, flanked by my two daughters. Kitsu and Akina look firmly ahead, and their firm resolve brings small dew drops to my eyes. Nine years old, and just like every day, they seem decades older. The sky decided to grace us with a light snow, so as we trudge through the dusting appearing over our heads, the girls gently twirl around. It seems crude to take a photo, but they looked sweet, so I quickly snap a little photo of them, the snow dusting their brown and black hair. We continue to walk through the rows of gravestones, before we finally get to Eos'. The sun's starting to set, even though we left earlier in order to get the most light. The girls kneel, the snow padding their knees from aching, and as we pray, the sun seems to be a little brighter, the snow lighter, and the weight on our shoulders lighter. I kneel slightly behind the girls, and tears come down my cheeks heavier the longer I wait.I take a few deep breaths, before bowing my head in front of Eos' epitaph. Her epitaph is the only thing in my vision, and I can't avoid the words she chose.
'Eos Anastas Sakai ,
Year after year, an orange tulip will bloom ,
04/15/2005 -08/13/2041'
It's the second time I've ever read this, but the tears come stronger, and I bow my head lower, till it's touching the snow.
"Eos. I said for eternity, and I am a man of my word. I'm sorry for not coming sooner, but you know better than anyone how stubborn I am. I hope one day you'll tell me what you couldn't. I am forever yours. Dead or alive. I love you."
I set the orange tulips down, and stand up. The air seems lighter around us somehow, and as we leave, I look behind my shoulder one more time.
"Eos, souls meet for a reason, and when they connect, they unify. I will never be free of you, my orange tulip."
