real life.

THE FOLLOWING MORNING, eliana awoke to the sun shining through her window. the smell of pancakes and bacon flooded her nose, the scent of her mother cooking breakfast. she got out of bed, throwing on a hoodie over her short tank top and walked down the stairs to the kitchen.

"good morning, bug. how was your sleep?" eliana's mom said to her cheerfully. no matter the circumstances, her mom was always in a happy mood. unfortunately, this didn't stretch to eliana as she was the complete opposite.

"it was good. how was yours?" she isn't lying, it was good, more like familiar. being in a bed she hadn't been in for years in a house she really wanted to forget.

"mine was good as well. did you want to go drive and get yourself a coffee? i'll give you some money." eliana shook her head yes, knowing that coffee for her was a must.

she finished her breakfast and grabbed her keys, walking out of the house to the car. eliana put on her favorite song at the moment, girl next door by maggie lindemann. she felt that she related to this song, considering her own situation. she turned up the volume and drove away.

OVER AT THE STURNIOLO HOUSEHOLD, the triplet's mom, marylou, was cooking breakfast. the three boys had been awoken due to a similar smell like at eliana's house, pancakes and bacon.

all three boys ran down the stairs, excited for the lovely tasting breakfast their mom had cooked. "good morning boys, any plans for today?"

"i think us, nate and alahna are going to madi's pool." chris says, resulting in a smile from marylou.

she knew that eliana leaving abruptly had been nothing short of emptiness and sadness so them having others to lean on was amazing to see. they all finished their breakfast and talking about plans for the day, so the boys went upstairs to get ready.

chris had been the one most affected by eliana's absence. not only because they were dating for a long time but she was truly his best friend. she was the one who had gotten him out of dark place, the one who helped him get over his fear of commitment.

eliana was also nick and matt's best friend. they all hung out everyday, watched their favorite movies, and went on vacations together. they never thought their last hangout would truly be the last.

each one of the boys had a memory of her in their rooms. in nick's, it was a picture of the two of them at the beach, eliana on his back. in matt's, it was picture of them in elementary school, holding up similar pictures they had painted in art class. in chris', there were shirts, hoodies, handwritten notes from anniversaries, pictures in frames, and a stuffed animal.

after a year had gone by of eliana's unknown whereabouts, the boys could only put those memories away. whether it was under beds or in closets, they couldn't bear to look at them any longer.

what once was sadness, emptiness, and distress was now replaced with anger and resentment.

AT THE CAFE, eliana ordered her favorite coffee. she knew she probably looked crazy since that day in late august was one of the hottest days and she was wearing shorts and a oversized hoodie with the hood up.

eliana knew this area of boston like the back of her hand and so did everyone else she knew. she hoped by somewhat covering her face, she wasn't able to be recognized by anyone.

it was a busy day and at this moment, eliana had wished she walked. she felt finding a parking space was more inconvenient than just walking entirely.

once her order was called out, eliana grabbed the coffee and walked out the door. she let out a sigh of relief, one she didn't realize she was holding. she just felt lucky not having to see anyone she knew.

unbeknownst to her, three sets of eyes were on her figure from behind.
