Hearing the familiar honk of a car, I smiled, picked up a sandwich and walked out.
"Hey Maddie," I said, hopping into her car.
"Hey Tay, ooh, sandwich," she grinned and snatched it from me.
" Rude much," I huffed, watching her bite into it greedily. My mom's sandwiches were the best.
She started the car and zoomed off.
"So, how did it go last night, with Zach?" I asked and she rolled her eyes.
"Shitty. Anyways, if you must know, we broke up,"
"Well, did he admit to it? "
" No, but we saw him, and he still denied it,"
" I swear, I never expected Zach to do such a thing,"
"Yeah."
" You do not look sad though,"
"That's because I've already seen someone I like,"
" Oh," I said, extremely surprised. "So fast,"
" Not really. I've had my eyes on him for awhile now," she said and I raised a brow.
"Are you sure you saw Zach cheating?"
"Yes, plus, we both saw when he was holding that girl and then hugged her,"
" Yeah," I slurred. " Is that counted as cheating?"
" I said I saw him with a girl,"
"Right," I said in realisation. " Sorry,"
" It's okay. As long as David doesn't do the same,"
" David would never. He loves me."
" Have you guys done...it?"
" No. But he says it's not a problem. He said he'll wait,"
"Oh, my sweet Tay so naive thinking he won't get it from someone else," she giggled and I looked out of the window as we pulled into school. I quickly got out and she followed.
"Wait up."
I ignored her and continued walking into school.
"Tay, I didn't mean to get you upset. I was only joking around. You should know how I am."
"And I've warned you to stop it!" I hissed and she looked taken aback.
" I'm sorry," she said sincerely and I rolled my eyes and sighed.
"It's fine. See you later." With that, I walked away, bumping into David.
"Hey babe," he said and I hugged him. "Hey, good morning," I said and he pecked me.
"Good morning to you too, my love. You seem angry, what's the matter?"
"It's Maddie, she keeps making jokes on how you're going to cheat on me and stuffs like that," I huffed and he frowned, obviously upset.
"Why would she say that?!"
I stared at him with wide eyes, not expecting him to get so angry.
"Chill out babe, she's just joking,"
"But you didn't find it funny,"
" I know but, I didn't know you'd get so angry,"
" Of course I would. She makes it sound like there's something fishy I'm doing and she knows it,"
" Well, I trust you, okay?"
" Thanks love. Come we'll be late for class."
True. We strolled to class, hand-in-hand, a feeling of content washing over me.
Later On:
"Hey babe," I called out and he turned.
"Hey love,"
"Are you coming?"
"Coming for what?"
"Jen's party,"
"I didn't know she was hosting a party,"
" Yeah, her eldest brother just graduated college,"
" Oh, right, she said so."
"So?"
"Shoot. I can't. I'm supposed to help Shannon with, um, her, um, her recital."
I raised my brows and crossed my arms.
" You're lying,"I stated. He sighed and said.
"You caught me. Tho I am supposed to help Shannon with her recital and stuff, I honestly don't feel like going,"
"You should have just said so," I said, hugging him.
"Are you going?"
"Yeah. This night, by 8," I replied.
"Alright. See you tomorrow," I said again.
"See you tomorrow," he repeated and I skipped off.
"You can't avoid me forever," Maddie said and I rolled my eyes and got into the car.
"You cannot make jokes like that. I've said so," I huffed.
"I'm sorry my bestie. I promise I won't again."
" You're forgiven,"
" Oh, thanks. Are you going to Jen's party?"
" Yeah, what about you?"
" Nah. Tim's kinda sick."
Tim was her brother, who I spoke to seconds ago.
" Are you making up an excuse?"
" No. Why would I? Your my best friend, so why would I lie?"
" Cause I spoke to Tim about few seconds ago, and he seemed fine."
She didn't reply and I sighed.
" It's fine if you don't want to go."
"It's not like that. I just have to be with someone this night,"
"A date?"
" No. We're just getting to know each other, tho, I'm sure he likes me and I like him too,"
" Why didn't you tell me? I'm so happy for you,"
" Thanks bestie,"
Slowly, the ride came to an end and I got out.
" Bye bestie," I said and got into my house. I quickly took off my clothes and showered. I changed into an oversized tee and shorts. My phone rings and I pick up, tying my hair into a messy bun at the top of my head.
"Hey Mom,"
"Hey sweetie, I know you must be hungry, I left alot of food in the fridge. You can have a pizza if you want. "
" You aren't coming home, are you? "
" I'm sorry love. I have to cover for both Brenda and Hannah. I'm sorry love, "
" Well, can I at least go to Jen's party? She's hosting her brother,"
" Of course honey. Just remember, no drinking, no sex--"
" I understand," I groaned with a small smile.
" I love you honey. Be safe, "
" Love you too, Mary-Anne."
With that, she hung up and I smiled. I jumped on the bed and inhaled the fresh air.
"Hey sweetheart," I heard and turned around with a smile.
" Can you knock? " I said and she giggled, holding me.
" Mom said she's out late. Two shifts, " she said and I nodded.
" She's too nice," my sister, Tayla, said and I nodded in agreement.
" You going for Jen's party?" I asked.
"Duh. The hot college guys are gonna be there. How dare I miss it? "
"Whatever. At least I have you, " I said and she frowned.
" What about Madison and David? "
" David is helping Shannon with her recital and he doesn't feel like going. Maddie is goin on a, um, makeshift date with a guy she likes."
" Oh, dear sister. And you believe that bull-- that lie? Somehow, they both have an excuse and are not attending. Can't you see all of this is a lie? "
My blood ran cold and I did not say anything.
" So who is this person she likes? Lemme guess, she didn't say a name. Try to see that, they may like each other and he might cheat on you with her, "
" Enough. She's my best friend. She would never, okay? Drop it, " I hissed and she rolled her eyes.
By eight, we were at Jen's house. As Tayla said, there were college guys and others. It was a full house.
I searched he entire house to see if Maddie and David came together, behind my back, but I saw none of them. I phoned them severally but neither of them responded.
"Where're you going?"
"Going to see Maddie. I've called them but they're not answering."
Tayla gave me the look of 'told ya' and I walked away.
.....
I got to Maddie's house but it was empty. Dreadfully, I went to David's house. The light was on. I heard voices and I just opened and walked in, instead of knocking. There I saw David and Maddie, under a blanket, watching a movie and laughing.
"Babe?" I called and hey turned in surprise.
"W-what are you doing here?" Maddie asked.
"What are you doing here?" I retorted, angry at her question.
"Um, my date stood me up, and I went to the store and saw David was around getting snacks, so I decided to join him. I'm so sorry if you have a problem with that. I didn't want to disturb you at the party,"
Instantly, I felt bad and I hugged her. They weren't even in a compromising position.
"I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions. Just that without my two favorite people, the party is terrible," I huffed sitting in their middle.
" You cannot sit here. He's my boyfriend for tonight," Maddie shooed and we laughed.
We watched two movies and I left as Maddie was already asleep.
I was happy that Tayla was all shades of wrong.*******************
