Cain's P.O.V

I woke up in my room. Maverick told me he found me lying unconscious on a stranger's patio. I couldn't comprehend what was going on with me. I stayed away from people to calm my mind. My mother kept an eye on me. A month went by with me walking around like a zombie. Imagine my surprise when I saw on the news that my wedding date was near. I rushed downstairs to confront my mother. The woman was happily chatting with my so-called fiancé.

I growled and yelled, "How dare you tie me to someone without my consent?" My mother glared at me and uttered, "What would you like us to do then? You chose Aidan in front of everyone. We can't lose face. You have to marry him no matter what." I gazed at Aidan and asked, "I told you I didn't want anything to do with you. Why are you so adamant about marrying me?" Aidan put his head down and replied, "Because I'm in love with you." I laughed and declared, "You are kidding me, right? I haven't been nice to you since the whole ordeal happened." Aidan grabbed my hand and said, "I like you, Cain. I want to spend the rest of my life with you." I felt disgusted. I pushed Aidan and growled, "Don't touch me." Aidan looked at me in shock.

I huffed and asked, "Have you ever felt like you are missing something, but you don't know what, Aidan?" Aidan shook his head. I clutched my hair and uttered, "Well, I do. I feel robbed of my happiness. You are a nice guy. You deserve someone who will love you sincerely. Stop chasing me, and go find your mate." My father appeared suddenly. He threw me against the wall and said, "Get off your high horse and face the truth. Aidan is not going anywhere. I'm tired of your drama. Marry him, or I'll disown you." I chuckled and replied, "I have made my choice. We live in the twenty-first century. You can't force me to do anything."

I ran upstairs to change my clothes. I made sure to grab the necessary papers I required to continue my studies. I also took my credit card. It was money I had earned myself. My mother was bawling her eyes out when I returned. I took one last look at my father and said, "I won't be contacting this family anymore. Goodbye." Maverick tackled me to the floor before I could open the door. I kicked him and yelled, "Let me go. You can't stop me!" Maverick punched me and asked, "Have you lost your mind?" I growled and replied, "No, but you all have. I have said countless times that I don't want to marry Aidan. Why are people pushing him into me?" Maverick grabbed my neck and uttered, "You are so selfish." I smirked and asked, "If Mother had asked you to do the same, would you do it?"

Maverick looked at me in bewilderment. I chuckled and said, "Yeah. I thought so." I pushed Maverick off me and grabbed my things. I took the car I had bought myself and left. I had applied to the University of Washington a few months earlier. I was over the moon when I got accepted. I was aiming to study political science there. The new term had already started, but I wasn't late. I drove straight to Washington. I booked a room when I arrived. I moved into the dorm the next day. The staff didn't ask me too many questions. I bet they were afraid to enrage my family.

I wasn't alone in my dorm room. My roommate was a sports fanatic. I hardly saw the guy. My parents tried to contact me, but I ignored them. Maverick came looking for me one day. He urged me to return home. I laughed when I heard that my parents had adopted Aidan. I wondered why his parents let things go on like this. My roommate moved out in my second year. No one joined me again. I was happy to be alone. I managed to graduate early. I was about to get my PhD when the leader of a political party contacted me. He wanted me to join his campaign. I couldn't let this opportunity slip through my fingers.

I happily joined the party. I worked hard to become the leader's second in command. The guy was old. The other members as well. It was no surprise when Rob Luwin died amid elections. I had to take the top position. People loved a young and handsome face. My experience in handling matters showed during the campaigns. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard I had won the election. Who would have thought that I would become the president at twenty-four? Running a country was no laughing matter. I hired the right people to support me.

My parents came to see me after the inauguration. They were proud of me. It was too late. I had lost my trust in them. Things slowly started to change. Maverick got appointed as the alpha king after a war. I did my best to support my brother. I had to travel a lot due to work. It was hard going through the days alone. It had been six years since I left home. I was busy with work when my secretary approached me. He handed me a file and said, "Your brother is here to see you, sir." I nodded and uttered, "Okay. Let him in." Maverick seemed tired. I quickly poured him a glass of water. Maverick finished the water and said, "The head enforcer is in town. He might want to see you." I groaned and asked, "Why? I haven't done anything wrong." Maverick gazed at his watch and replied, "He knows you are a werewolf. I'm sure he wants to know how you manage supernatural affairs."

I sighed and asked, "Do you know who this guy is?" Maverick ran his fingers through his hair and uttered, "No. No one has seen him yet. His men handle his affairs in his steed." My secretary knocked on the door and said, "It's time for your lunch with the foreign dignitaries, Mr. President." Maverick laid down on the sofa and stated, "Go. I'll take a nap, then leave." I managed to reach an agreement with the foreign dignitaries. They were finally ready to assist us in finding a few prisoners. We were on the road back to the headquarters when I heard a loud bang. I couldn't see any of my bodyguards. My secretary immediately started calling for backup. We were in the middle of the city. I couldn't fight even if I wanted to. Who knew how people would view the incident?

Someone yanked the door open suddenly. I pushed Flynn, my secretary, behind me and said, "Don't be afraid. I'll protect you." I gasped when a silver bullet pierced through my chest. I grabbed the gun from the attacker and shot him. More people started showing up. The enemy had laced the bullet with poison. I could feel it coursing through my veins. Flynn dragged me to a three-story building. The lobby was fortunately empty. Flynn helped me into the elevator and said, "Help is on the way, sir. The helicopter can pick us up from the rooftop." I could hardly breathe. Theon was trying to fight the poison. I could sense how weak he had gotten. Flynn groaned when we reached the roof. I tried to open my eyes but couldn't. I grabbed Flynn's arm and asked, "What's wrong?" Flynn helped me sit and whispered, "A guy is standing on the edge. He has a dangerous aura around him."

The sound of a bullet resonated in the air. Flynn gasped and yelled, "Sorry, sir. They are after us. Can you help us get rid of them?" The guy sighed and uttered, "Stay where you are. Don't get in my way." Flynn shook me and said, "He obliterated them in one move, sir. I wonder who he is." The guy was about to leave when Flynn yelled, "You are an enforcer, aren't you? Please, help my boss. He is dying." The guy chuckled and stated, "You are right. He is at death's door. We can't have that now, can we?" I wish I could see the guy's face. The guy patted my cheek and said, "Bite my arm. My blood will heal you." Something suddenly came over me. I grabbed the guy's shoulder and bit his neck. I felt sparks throughout my body. The guy pushed me and yelled, "Damn werewolves! They never listen!" I don't know what happened after that. I was lying in a hospital bed when I woke up.
