If I could turn back time back to the day of my birth, I would warn my mother about a man with the face of a fallen angel. Her cries echoing throughout the room as she pushed life out of her body, and there the room cried in freedom.

'What about the man with the face of a fallen angel?'

He could've cared less. No whisper of evil he uttered would process through a newborn's ear. Not with the presence of her mother near.

This is poetic nonsense. I'm coming up with snake eyes for this man. My entire life revolves around him like the Smith & Wesson revolver he keeps in his desk where he'd constantly spin the chamber out of boredom, checking on the unused .38 S&W Specials should there ever come a day where he'd have to use it.

When my mom gave birth to me, my life outside her womb began as a debate.

She wanted to name me 'Serphina' because I was her angel and her highest priority.

My dad, on the other hand, wanted to name me 'Darci-May' because it was simply catchy and fun.

Outside the room were my grandparents who had it even worse as my grandmothers were face-to-face for every open spot of my name, and my last name remained untouchable.

Grandma Sul, similar to my mom's idea, recommended 'Evangeline' as a more elegant name, but Grandmother Yang disagreed, arguing: "...that the name was too mature for [my] childhood." Instead, she insisted on Pearl. It was simple, pretty, and would sound fresh out of every mouth that uttered that name.

Nobody agreed on my first name for a while, and my middle name ended up being a singular letter because my dad didn't know how to write out a birth certificate, so it's just the letter S.

Once they took me home, my only grandfather took me into his arms and looked into my newborn eyes, shedding a tear. He then looked up to everyone and saying:

"My baby. This is my baby." Without a regard to his own daughter who suffered 3 hours of labor.

The room stayed silent except for my wailing, and he looked up to the cross nailed to the wall, crying with me.

"Victoria." he murmured.

Everyone agreed on that name, and my life was finally able to begin as Victoria S. Sul-Yang.
