As April of 2019 rolled around, Raven found himself in a comical yet nerve-wracking situation. With the ongoing lockdown in the Philippines, he had plenty of time to contemplate his future. However, every time he tried to decide on a college course, he found himself caught in a whirlwind of indecision.
One day, Raven sat at his computer desk, surrounded by stacks of brochures and course catalogs. He scratched his head, staring blankly at the screen as if hoping it would magically display the perfect career path for him. Suddenly, his phone buzzed with a message from Carlos, his childhood friend and gaming buddy.
"Hey Raven! Have you figured out what course you're taking yet, or are you planning to become a professional procrastinator?" Carlos teased.
Raven sighed, typing back, "I'm trying, okay? It's not easy deciding the trajectory of my entire future!"
Just as Raven hit send, his mom popped her head into his room. "Raven, have you made any progress on choosing a course? Your dad and I are getting worried."
Feeling the pressure from all sides, Raven blurted out the first thing that came to mind, "I'll do... um... Information Technology!"
His mom's eyes widened in surprise. "Information Technology? Are you sure?"
Raven nodded vigorously, trying to appear confident despite the panic bubbling within him. "Yes, absolutely sure! It's the future, right? And, uh, computers are cool!"
His mom raised an eyebrow but ultimately shrugged. "Well, if you're sure about it... Just make sure you put in the effort and excel in whatever you choose, okay?"
"Of course, Mom," Raven replied with a forced smile, secretly hoping he hadn't just made the biggest mistake of his life.
As Raven hastily confirmed his decision to pursue Information Technology, a sly grin crept onto his face. While he assured his mom that it was the future and computers were cool, his mind wandered to the real reason behind his choice.
In the depths of YouTube binges during the lockdown, Raven stumbled upon countless videos showcasing seemingly effortless tasks in the realm of Information Technology. "Just click here, type a few commands there, and voila! Problem solved!" the tutorial hosts would proclaim with a nonchalant air.
To Raven, it seemed like a dream career - a world where he could simply "pindot pindot" (click-click) his way through challenges and emerge victorious. After all, if those tutorial wizards could make it look so easy, surely he could master it too!
With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, Raven couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of his future self effortlessly navigating the digital landscape, armed with nothing but his trusty mouse and keyboard.
Meanwhile, Carlos had also been grappling with his college decision. Inspired by his cousin's success as an engineer, he had finally made up his mind to pursue an engineering course, determined to follow in his cousin's footsteps.
Little did he(Raven) know, the reality of Information Technology would prove to be far more complex and demanding than the enticing snippets he'd seen online. Yet, in that moment of impulsive decision-making, Raven couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement at the prospect of diving headfirst into the world of IT, armed with nothing but his unwavering determination and a healthy dose of YouTube-inspired confidence.
