The gavel struck the desk with finality.
"Dismissed."
It was another clean victory for Meher. The defendant slumped in his chair, clearly frustrated.
"Aisa kaise ho sakta hai ki yeh phir se jeet gayi?" he growled to himself. "How is this possible? How can she win again?"
"Samne wale ko kamzor samajhne se nuksaan sirf khud ka hota hai, Mr. Khan. Chalbaazi se zyada apne kaam par tawajjuh diya karein." "By considering the opponent weak, you only harm yourself, Mr. Khan. You should focus more on your work than on tricks."
She simply gathered her papers, gave the judge a polite nod, and strode toward the exit.
In the evening, the smell of soil wafted in the air—rain was about to start. Zayn was already waiting in the car to pick her up. As she walked across the marble floor, her heels clicked rhythmically.
"Congratulations, Ms. Meher Ali Shah," he said with a polite smile as she sat in the passenger seat.
"How do you know I won?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"From your smile," he replied, smiling himself.
He started the car. They drove in silence for a while, as Meher focused on reading some important case files. Her expression suddenly changed—she had seen something very strange in the file. There was a note. Zayn noticed the change in her face and asked,
"Meher, sab khairiyat?" "Meher, is everything alright?"
"No..." her voice was barely audible.
"What happened, Meher? What's written on that page?" he asked, eyeing the note in her hand.
"It... It's related to the Kashvi case."
"Kashvi? You mean Kashvi Singh’s murder case?" he asked in surprise.
"Yeah... How do you know about it?" she gave him a shocked look.
"Actually, My brother-in-law is handling that case."
"Ewww, you mean that Mr. ATM?" she asked in irritation.
"Umm? Mr. ATM? Full form please, Ms. Meher Ali Shah," he replied with a sarcastic smirk.
"Akdu Te Mandhbuddhi! Damn, WHY is he solving this case?!" She shouted, and Zayn burst out laughing. He laughed until his stomach started to ache while Meher gave him a side-eye. He finally stopped, wiping a tear from his eye.
The mysterious murder case was being investigated by Samar Rahmani and his team, while Meher had been hired by Kashvi’s family as their lawyer.
"Okay okay, jokes apart. First, tell me what’s written in that note, Meher? Can you read it out?"
Her expression returned to serious as she read the note aloud:
