Before they Meet

I have been a vampire for 23 years; I made my transition at 28 and am stuck in my youthful dead body forever... or at least until someone drives a stake through my heart. Before I became a vampire, I was a nurse. I worked in a couple hospitals around London and had a lovely cottage outside the city with a garden in my backyard. I attempted to grow as much fresh produce as I could. It is now extremely overgrown since I cannot go out during the day unless I am completely covered.

Tonight is the night of the full moon for this month which means something special for me. On the full moon nights, once a month I allow myself to indulge in something special. Since I was a nurse before becoming a vampire, I saw many people in terrible stages in their lives, fighting to stay alive or begging for death. Because of this I usually find the weakest or person that is closest to death in a hospital to take as my prey for the night. It tends to be older people, but can vary between ages, sometimes even being newborn babies. On this one night a month though, I allow myself to pick a fresh and lively person to kill. I figure that since I am killing anyways, one good life out of thirty is a fair trade to the population.

My person for tonight is someone I have been watching for months. She is young, around 25, has a beautiful face and is always bursting with life and energy. I partially see my younger self in her and believe this is part of the reason I have not yet killed her. She walks past my house every evening on her way home from work. She is usually alone but has been accompanied on some of the colder and snowier days the past few weeks. Today it is not too cold for February. The snow from last week has melted and there is no wind, giving a false hope for an early spring. I decided that this would be my best chance to capture her since I know she will be alone today. The sun is beginning to set so I know my time to act will be coming soon. I decided that tonight I will lure her into my house before attacking. It is too risky to capture her by force outside, I have learned from experience. I put on my old scrubs that I would still be wearing if I were not trapped in this half life forever. I add a thick layer of foundation to my face to cover the lack of color in my face. This should do the trick I hope since I cannot see myself in the mirror. I see it is getting darker outside through my curtain, grab a hat and head outside through my backdoor. I walk onto the path that connects to the one she walks on to get home. They meet up about a half of a mile from here. I start my walk to get to the point where they connect so it looks as though I was just on my way home from work too.
