"Come on, (name). Don't be a wuss!" Hiro groaned, collapsing on his bed for dramatic effect, "I promise, this will be the last time I ask you! I just want someone there to support me, pleeeasssseee?" he whines, lifting his head up to look at you with puppy eyes.
"How many times do I have to remind you, botfighting is illegal, Hiro. Do you think I wanna be around that sort of crowd?" you explain while rolling your eyes at his antics.
"It's only illegal if you bet on it, technically.." he muttered.
"Don't you bet on it anyway?" you questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"That's not the point! Just come, please, I'll owe you big time! I promise if we get caught I'll take all the blame." he solemnly swore. He turns to you and lifts up his pinkie to interlock with yours.
You glance at his finger with an exasperated look and interlock your pinky with his. "Fine, fine. But I'm only going to make sure you don't get jumped by a bunch of crack-headed botfighters."
"Yes!" Hiro pumped his fist in celebration, "Now follow me, and be quiet..." he said as he shushed you.
You gave him a dirty look, then quickly followed him out of his room. You both creep down the stairs to the second floor, peering from the stairs to see Aunt Cass preoccupied in the kitchen. As Hiro descended down the stairs in front of you, he accidentally landed on a step that made a loud *creeakk* . You both look at each other in fear, but the sound of the floorboard only alerted Hiro's adorable cat, Mochi. You smiled fondly at her, moving in to pet her, but Hiro pulls you back and drags you down the stairs to the cafe.
"Hey- what was that for?!" you whisper-shouted at him.
"Stay on track. We don't have much time." he whispered back, giving you a stern look.
Both of you make it out of the cafe, and you stroll aimlessly behind Hiro, hoping that he's taking you to the right place. "You.. you do know where you're going, right? Cause I forgot my phone.." you asked him.
"Of course I do, just trust the process!" he said in an uncertain-ish tone.
You shook your head at him, 'Unbelievable...' you thought. Hiro suddenly stopped in his tracks and pulled you into a dark alleyway, "what the-" you exclaimed. He brought a finger to your mouth to shut you up.
"Shhh!" he whispered aggressively.
You blushed slightly for a moment, but gave him another stank eye and followed him to a random door in the alleyway. To your surprise, he opened it to reveal a whole group full of adults, drinks, and... well.. many more things you wish you could unsee.
"Um.. are you sure this is the right place and not..." you paused, taking in your surroundings, "some sorta club?"
"See, I told you!" he said happily, pointing to a botfight happening nearby in the establishment. "Let's go!" he took a hold of your arm and dragged you towards the crowd.
You reluctantly followed Hiro into the dimly lit room, your heart pounding in your chest as you took in the sight before you. The air was thick with the smell of sweat and alcohol, and the sound of cheers and jeers filled the space as two bots clashed in the center of the room.
Hiro's excitement was evident as he pushed his way through the crowd, his eyes lit up with excitement. "This is it, (Name)! The main event!" he exclaimed, his voice barely heard over the chaos of the crowd.
You couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as you glanced around at the sketchy randoms that surrounded you. These were not the kind of people you wanted to associate with, and yet here you were, dragged into the midst of it all by your reckless friend.
