This is my first book ever. I hope I'm doing everything right!

Peter wiped away the stinging tears that were sitting in his eyes and opened the office doors.
He saw the lady at the front office talking with the social services.
"Hey Peter, I'm so sorry for your loss. This is Ms. Davis. She will get you situated."
Peter turned to look at Ms. Davis. She was blonde, her hair in a ponytail. She seemed like a nice lady..
"Hello, Peter. I'm here to take you to your group home." Ms Davis said, "We can pass by your house so you can pack up the stuff you need."
Peter nodded. He was so shocked what was happening to him. It was all going.. so fast
They walked out the school and to the parking lot there was a black car parked in front.
Ms. Davis unlocked the car and opened the back door gesturing for Peter to get in the backseat. Peter went inside and sat on the uncomfortable black leather seats. The car smelled nice. Smelled very new, as if the lady had just bought it from a fancy dealership.
She started to drive towards Peter's apartment.
Peter knows he's gonna hate this. This will be the first time he sees the apartment knowing full well May is never going to come back home. He won't ever be able to make a new memory with her again, he won't be able to take a picture and hang it up on the walls of their warm apartment with beautiful frames. It won't ever feel like home again, but it doesn't matter anymore. He won't ever be able to go back home anyway. This will be the first and last time he steps into the apartment without May alive.
The blonde peeked her head through the rearview mirror and looks at Peter who is zoning out, looking out the window.
"I'm so sorry for your loss."
How many times am I going to hear that? He thought.
"I know you are having a really hard time right now.. and I know that it's all probably going so fast right now.. but I assure you, it's going to get better." Ms. Davis said. Her voice filled with comfort. She had a sad pitying expression on her face as if she actually felt bad for Peter. It all seemed so fake to Peter.
Like she knows. Peter thought to himself bitterly.
"I'll wait out here for you Peter." Ms. Davis said, "Take all the time you need."
Peter nods. He steps inside the apartment. He looks at all the frames hung up on the walls. He looks at the couch that has a couple stains from spilling ice cream whenever May and him had movie nights. The kitchen table where they would laugh and talk while they ate, talking about how their days went after May came from work. Even the times where they had to order take out because they were both too tired to make dinner.
Each step he took grew heavier as the memories overwhelmed him. The feeling of a happy memory that won't ever bring the bursts of pure joy, or the feeling of warmth that fills your heart. The feeling of contentment and happiness, all gone. In the span of one cruel Monday.
He stepped into his room. The room May had stepped in this morning to motivate him to get up and get ready for the day.
'Today is a fresh start. Recollect yourself from yesterday!'
Oh May.. how can I ever recollect myself from this..
He starts to pack up his clothes, some books and pencils, his toothbrush, all the necessities. He's heard a bunch of stories about how the system treats kids unfairly. He hopes he has good luck with this experience.
