Originally, the performance of Code Name was scheduled to begin as soon as Full Clip of 888 Crew ended.
However, the sound director, noticing the lingering impact of Full Clip on the audience, refrained from playing the beat. Playing the beat at that moment didn't seem favorable for both Code Name and 888 Crew.
Camera directors, sensing the sound director's intention, began filming the audience frantically, hoping to capture even a slightly favorable scene.
Once the aftermath of Full Clip was sufficiently captured on camera and the audience's reaction calmed down, Code Name's retaliatory performance began.
Code Name brought "High Note" as their second song, which was popular after the title track on their previous album. It was a great choice due to its free theme advantage.
"High Note! High Note! Open a manito! High Note!"
Originally, High Note was a song where four members rapped in 8-bar segments.
However, for the Hip Hop The Vibe competition, it was rearranged with rookies, Ruki and Woosung, rapping in 16-bar segments to suit the format. Ruki and Woosung seemed to be focused on the stage in a non-typical way, as if trying to shake off the shadow of Full Clip.
The audience showed a decent response, but it wasn't particularly enthusiastic. "Why does this feel so bland?"
The sound director, amidst focusing on balancing the sound during the performance, couldn't shake off the feeling of blandness.
Objectively, Code Name's performance wasn't bad. It was evident that OK Entertainment's rap directors put a lot of effort into creating and rehearsing the rap. But it was just not great.
There was no feeling of greatness. Something was missing in Code Name's performance that didn't immerse the audience.
The sound director could understand what was lacking in Code Name's performance by observing the second song of 888 Crew, "Valuable" by Oh Minji and Kim Hwan.
"At every moment, thoughts change, For me, rap is still the best, Music that can't be evaluated with just value, Feels incomplete, uncomfortable."
Compared to the content-rich lyrics of "Valuable," Code Name's music felt like a dish full of spices but lacking substance. "Ah, this is the difference in rap skills," thought the sound director.
People who don't know much about rap often don't understand the difference in rap skills. Of course, you can distinguish bad rap; it makes you feel uneasy. But it's not easy to judge which rap is better among the decent ones.
Watching today's Hip Hop The Vibe theme battle, the sound director could truly feel the difference in rapper's class.
Full Clip vs. High Note Valuable vs. Party Planner
The joint performance of 888 Crew and Code Name, consisting of four songs, continued without a break.
Although the audience enthusiastically cheered and enjoyed their performance, the real power to end it was still left.
This was because the solo battle was yet to come. The audience knew the two contestants for the solo performance. Sanghyun from 888 Crew had not yet appeared, and Dread from Code Name had not appeared either.
Sanghyun, the practical ace of 888 Crew and the trendsetter designing the progressive musicality of 888 Crew.
Dread, the leader of Code Name, who showed his presence in the B-boy competition and entered the entertainment industry as a troublemaker.
The showdown between the two rappers was both a continuation of the no-holds-barred fight at the Mudung Stadium and a rumor of capital rearrangement by OK Entertainment.
