It's been a month since I entered the university, although I have been focusing primarily on my studies, I couldn't stop myself from trying to contact Ji-A.
I thought that finding her would be easy, her parents must have already warned her that I had already left Busan and arrived at the university.
I found it very strange when I didn't find her waiting for me at the station, and even more so when despite the month I've been here already, I haven't run into her despite actively looking for her.
Following the most logical course of action, I began to ask about her, first to friends I had already made at the university, then to professors and then to university staff.
In the end a professor was able to give me a clue, a girl known as Sae-Hyun who apparently usually hangs out with Ji-A.
I also found out that the latter is having a lot of absences in various classes, that doesn't seem to be a behavior that my childhood friend would have... Although who knows maybe like me in this year that we were separated, she also changes.
Anyway, I waited to have some free time between classes before trying to talk to Sae-Hyun, which came later than I thought, studying medicine is quite difficult and keeps me busy most of the time, but it is my career goal, so I'm not complaining too much.
Taking advantage of the little free time I have, I looked for Sae-Hyun, which was not difficult, as we share a subject, so I found her outside on campus under a tree, apparently reading something on her phone.
I approached her being careful to make myself noticeable so as not to catch her off guard, she looked up from her phone to me and seemed to analyze me walking her gaze all over my body, her neutral expression shifting to a small friendly smile.
It still feels weird knowing that girls don't look at me like I'm a weirdo anymore, it was a common occurrence a year ago.
"Hi, are you Sae-Hyun, my name is Mi-Noo nice to meet you" I politely introduced myself.
Sometimes it comes to mind, a year ago I wouldn't have initiated a conversation with a stranger as easily as I do now.
"Indeed, I'm Sae-Hyun" She said, her smile got a little bigger, going from looking friendly to content "Do you need anything Mi-Noo?" She asked in turn cocking her head a little.
Sae-Hyun is a beautiful girl, with blonde hair and blue eyes, her features are not quite Asian, so probably one of her parents or grandfathers is a foreigner, she wears an outfit that hugs the curves of her body, which aren't exactly modest.
"Actually, yes, I've been asking about an acquaintance, which I can't reach, they told me you know her, it's about Ji-A" I took out my phone and looked for the last picture I have of Ji-A to show her "You see we've been friends for a long time. Because of some problems I had to stay at home for an extra year and cut contact with her, now that I want to recover that contact, I can't find her anywhere".
Sae-Hyun looked disappointed as soon as I explained why I had approached her, then she looked at my phone and her eyelids widened a little under the effect of surprise.
"Actually, yes I know Ji-A, we have some subjects in common... Wait, is that boy next to her you?" I ask, she looked quite surprised.
The picture I showed her was the graduation picture, the one I failed, but Ji-A managed to get, to boost my morale she wanted to take a picture with me, Sae-Hyun's surprise doesn't surprise me, even relatives have been surprised to see how much I've changed in just one year.
I laughed a little awkwardly still not knowing how to react to that kind of questions "Yes, puberty came a little late for me "I said still laughing awkwardly.
A year ago, I was a thin and withdrawn boy, I used to wear baggy clothes to hide my thinness that embarrassed me so much. Right now, I have an athletic physique, I'm not a mountain of muscles by any means, but exercise and a good diet gave me the body I have today.
I also gained self-confidence, letting go a bit of my naturally withdrawn personality, I'm still not an extrovert by any means, I still prefer not to initiate any conversation with strangers, but I no longer stress about talking to people I don't know.
Other minor changes came along with this such as a new hairstyle that is a little more elaborate and a new style of dress that brings out more confidence than the typical baggy clothes I wore before.
"That... That was a big change" She said "But back to the topic of Ji-A, I know her yes... If you want to give me your number, when I see her again I'll give it to her or tell her where you are so she can look you up"
"That would be great, I thank you from the bottom of my heart Sae-Hyun" Without any problem I gave the girl my phone number, as well as telling her where I usually go to eat during my off hours in case Ji-A prefers to meet me instead of a call or message.
"Okay, so when I see her again, I tell her everything" Sae-Hyun said, I couldn't help but notice that her smile both kind and happy had disappeared, long ago leaving a neutral expression.
"Again, I really appreciate it Sae-Hyun" I was about to just leave, but before even taking a step I thought a little "By the way, to thank you, how about we have a coffee sometime, when we have free time, you know" I proposed her, thinking that just leaving would be quite rude even more when I'm asking her for a favor.
She didn't seem surprised, but happy recovering her smile "Sure, I'd like to, I'm free tomorrow at the same time" she said biting slightly her lower lip at the end of her sentence... She has nice lips.
"P-perfect, I'm free at this time tomorrow anyway, so let's meet here" She nodded and with that, done I called this conversation over.
I started to walk away from her letting out a heavy sigh, talking to girls remains difficult, even more so with such cute girls.
POV Sae-Hyun
So...Mi-Noo, it's true that when I first met Ji-A she wouldn't stop talking about a guy with that name, of course, that was before I threw her into Choi Shi-Hoon's arms.
But my goodness I didn't expect the guy to be... Well, he was like that, of course Choi Shi-Hoon He's still better looking, taller and I'd say a bit more muscular, but Mi-Noo's not bad at all.
Notice his number on my phone... Well Ji-A shouldn't mind me having a little fun with her friend before I warn she that he's here.
Let out a small smile as I start to walk away, tomorrow I have an appointment, I should already start thinking what to wear.
