Chapter 5 - Missing (Haruto's POV)

 Today's Friday. Shiro still hasn't arrived yet and Kazuki and I are getting worried. It was already 8:00am meaning school had already started.

"Perhaps he skipped breakfast today?" Kazuki suggested but we both knew it wasn't the case. He continued rolling the dough for the bread but he stopped, washed his hands, took off his apron and started to walk outside. "Come on Haruto."

"Where to?"

"Shiro's home. I'm worried about him."

When we got there, it wasn't a pretty sight. The police sirens could be heard and the light from the ambulances could be seen everywhere. Shiro's house was lined with caution tape and his neighbors were gossiping at the side but Shiro was nowhere to be seen.

"I'll talk to the police." Kazuki said and ran to the police who was taking notes.

I stood there patiently waiting and wondering what was going on. Why were there so many people? Did someone get hurt? Where's Shiro? Is he safe? Despite the loud police sirens, I could hear the neighbor's gossip. The gossip was about how Shiro shot his mom. Shiro would never do such a thing like that. It must be Katsunori. Poor guy. He was getting blamed for something that wasn't even his fault. After Shiro's consciousness was replaced with Katsunori's, I saw exactly what damage he could do and as a result, I was even more scared. What if I couldn't stop Katsunori and Shiro's life from being ruined?

Kazuki came running back and said, "Shiro's mom got shot. She's currently in the hospital right now. They say that she'll be okay."

"What about Shiro?"

Kazuki shook his head. "They can't find him. He's not in school ethier."

As I was walking back, I wondered what Katsunori's evil intentions were and why he would do this to Shiro.

When we walked into the cafe, a familiar girl ran up to us.

"Hi, are you Kazuki?" She asked.

"Uhh yeah that's me." Kazuki stared at the girl for a minute. "Are you Yui? Shiro's best friend?"

"Yes, yes, do you know where Shiro is?" There was a slight panic in her voice like she's been running everywhere, looking for him.

"Umm no, he didn't come to the cafe today."

"Ugh, where could this guy be? I have been looking everywhere for him."

"Do you know about the demon?" I asked. I had a feeling Shiro would have told Yui.

"Yes!" Yui said. She looked relieved for a second but then suddenly asked, "How do you know? You aren't working for him right?!"

"What?! Of course not! I hate him!" I said

"Okay, okay, Yui, slow down." Kazuki looked around and saw the cafe was almost empty. "Sit down, sit down, Yui, tell us everything and we'll help you find Shiro."

We all sat down at an empty table and started talking.

"Okay, okay, I'll start from the start. Basically, Shiro's doing all sorts of questionable things. I think he shot his mom this morning but the thing is Shiro doesn't own a gun and even if he does he doesn't know how to operate it. He also broke into my room and harassed me and stuff which I know the Shiro I know would never do. I think he's being controlled or possessed by this funky, demon guy."

"Katsunori, that's his name right?" I said.

"Yes! I've been having strange dreams about him so I suspect it's probably him." Yui said. "I don't know anything else. I really need to find him before he hurts himself or someone else. We need a clue. Do your guys know what he's trying to do?"

"No." I replied. I wish I did. Perhaps I could've stopped all of this.

We sat in silence for the rest of the time Yui was here.
