Chapter 1

Harper

I'm sprawled out on my sister's couch, casually observing as she applies whatever makeup she's applying.

"Come on, Hails. You look fine. Let's just go." my younger sister, Hazel, urged.

"Fine?" Hailey echoed, overdramatically. "I need to look good tonight. And everywhere else I go." she said dabbing on even more I don't know, blush or whatever?

I rolled my eyes before glancing down at my watch.

"Why exactly am I being dragged into this?" I grumble, feeling irritated.

"Because we're on our uni break and we deserve to live." Hailey retorted with a scoff.

"If by live you mean getting yanked out of the house on a Saturday night then yeah, sure." I quipped, rolled my eyes.

I turned to Hazel, who was barely contained in a laugh. Apparently, we're supposed to head over to this "mid-term break" party and have fun. Hazel didn't mind, but I sure did.

"Alright that's it. If you don't wrap up whatever you're doing, I'm calling it a night." I announced, getting to my feet.

"First of all, this is foundation," she retorted, holding the bottle in her hand.
"Spare me the details."
"Second," she says, turning to me "I'm done. Stop being such a party pooper and let's go."

I sighed as I shoved my phone into my pocket. I'm rocking black cargo jeans and a white tee topped off with black and white Converse High Tops to match. Hazel's in a casual brown tee paired with white jeans. Meanwhile Hailey's strutting around in a short dress and knee-high boots. Sheesh, how do people walk in those?

We trudged our way down the ridiculously long staircase in our mansion, finally reaching the garage.

"So, whose car are we taking?" I inquired, scanning the area.

"Not mine," Hailey replied.

"I'm kind of exhausted from driving." I hear Hazel confess.

"Should we just go with my car?" I propose, glancing at them.

They both give me a nod as I fish out my car keys. With a press of a button, the BMW emits two beeps, signaling it's unlocking as I slide into the driver's seat and fasten my seatbelt.

"Alright, just a few good rules: One, don't overdo it on the drinks. Two, don't take too long, otherwise you can call a cab." I assert, starting the engine.

I hear a scoff, undoubtedly from Hailey. As the garage doors creak open, I slowly back my way out onto the road. Fortunately, the party isn't that far from home. We've just exited the compounds, navigating our way through the bustling streets.

"I guess people are quite busy these days, huh?" Hazel remarks, adjusting the air conditioning knob beside me.

"We better not take long." I caution, making a turn.

"Harper, will you stop being so pessimistic? We're here to have fun." Hailey snaps, her tone tinged with irritation.

"Hey you're the one who dragged me out, remember? I wouldn't mind staying home in my PJs, watching netflix and devouring a bowl of noodles." I retort, raising my tone.

"Guys. Guys. Calm down." Hazel interjects, turning to both Hailey and me. "Hailey, we'll be sure to have fun, and Harper, we won't take long. Clear?"
"Sounds good." Hailey agrees.
"Works for me." I affirm.
