Note on Chinese names, diminutives, and titles

The family name comes first before the given name. For example, Wei Yaling has a given name of Yaling and a family name of Wei.

Diminutive forms (diminutives) of names are usually created by means of 阿 (A') or 儿('er): Wei Yaling — A'Ling, or, Ling'er. Both can be added to female and male names. These are often used to denote familiarity, endearment, or informality. It can also be used to soften the tone of the name or to make it sound more affectionate.

Disclaimer: Although I am part Chinese, I'm no expert in this since my family did not use diminutives. This is based on my understanding from Chinese television shows and internet research.

You'll notice the crown prince and second prince are mostly addressed by their title throughout the story. This is because "the cultural importance of family is reflected in the language, with each family member having a very specific title. For example, Chinese has eight different words for cousins, depending on the gender of that person, whether they are on your mother's side or your father's side of your family, and whether they are older or younger than you." That's also how we can see the familiarity and feel the affection when the characters use the other person's name to address them.
