The next day, Todd woke up to loud banging noises. He groaned; he hoped it wasn't an annoying neighbor. If it was, he would find a way to punch them and threaten them so hard they would think twice before they made ANY sort of noise again.

"I was having such a good rest before that started," Avery grumbled.

"I'm gonna go down there and give them a piece of my mind," Todd said. He stomped downstairs, opened the door, and headed outside.

He looked around for the person who was causing the noise. He couldn't see anyone.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw something move behind the house. He was tempted to go investigate it, but he didn't want to risk his life.

Curiosity got the better of him. He ran to the back of the house, expecting to find something there.

Once again, nothing. Nearby, he heard a few growls. He decided to check that out.

He tracked down the growls until he was right next to a small lake that was behind every house in the neighborhood. He used to swim in this lake with his friends, before this whole plague started.

The good old days, when all we had to worry about was bees stinging us.

The noises were coming from some bushes near the shore. He went toward them.

Peering over the bushes, he saw three Catwing babies scuffling over something, swatting at each other with their tiny paws.

He heard Avery and Charlotte behind him. He motioned them to be quiet.

"What were those noises?" Avery whispered.

He pointed at the babies. Charlotte tilted her head. "I never thought I'd say this, but they're actually pretty cute."

Todd could agree. He never thought he'd say something about the dangerous beasts, but their round eyes and faces reminded him of a human baby: small, cuddly, adorable.

The babies noticed them and ran to them with no sense of danger. Charlotte bent down and scratched one of their ears, causing it to roll over and groan in pleasure.

Todd offered his arm to another one, and it used it to climb on to him. As it did, he got a good look at its privates. Okay, so this is a female. Noted.

The other two had... uh, their straws. And two males. Must be nice having an only sister.

The second male went up to Avery and sat down in front of him. Avery glanced at Todd uncertainly.

"They won't harm you," Todd assured him. "Just pick him up already."

He hesitated for a bit, but when he saw the male's large eyes, he gave in.

Avery grabbed the baby and carried him similar to how you would carry a human baby.

"I guess we can go?" Charlotte asked.

"Hold on." Todd looked around. "Where are their parents?"

"They probably left the poor things behind," Charlotte replied. "Let's just go before they get eaten."

As they trekked further and further down the lake, Todd had a feeling that carrying the babies would be a bad idea. He also couldn't shake the fact that the parents might be hunting and left them so they wouldn't be in danger.

Avery seemed to think the same thing he was, because he said, "What if the parents are actually out and they left their babies here so they, you know, wouldn't be hurt?"

"Catwings are brutal creatures," Charlotte snapped. "I doubt they care about their babies. We're doing them a favor."

Todd shared an uncertain glance with Avery.
