Harper was nearing the end of her pregnancy, and she felt incredibly annoyed. She didn't want to leave her house and spent her time in her room, listening to her Olivia Rodrigo playlist and watching Liv and Maddie on Kevin's Disney+ subscription. After all, why spend her own money on a subscription when she had a generous baby daddy to rely on?
Her back constantly hurt, and she experienced unexplained pain that she couldn't quite pinpoint. She didn't know if it was related to her heart or simply a symptom of her pregnancy. Regardless, she was in discomfort and wanted it to be over. She had visited the doctor for a check-up, but even that didn't provide much relief since she couldn't take any medication at 38 weeks.
In an attempt to feel better, she decided to go for a walk and stopped for an iced coffee along the way. She believed that pregnant women should be allowed to enjoy coffee occasionally since they couldn't indulge in other vices. She managed to acquire both Kevin and Gracie's credit cards, as they felt sorry for her. It was a smart move on her part, she thought.
While sitting at a table, Harper was texting Kevin about her hospital bag and its location so he could pack it in his truck. She sighed, trying to explain to him that it was behind a small door in her closet. However, her conversation was interrupted when she heard a familiar voice behind her.
"He can't find the little door, can he?" Harper turned around to see her ex-girlfriend, Renée, standing there. "Sorry, I was snooping. I'll admit it."
"Hi," Harper responded, slightly shocked to see Renée.
"What are you doing here?" Renée asked, realizing how odd her question sounded in a coffee shop setting.
Harper let out an awkward laugh. "I'm getting my favorite iced coffee, you know, the espresso with a shot of..." She didn't get a chance to finish her sentence because Renée had it memorized.
"A shot of vanilla, yeah," Renée nodded. "I remember."
Blushing with embarrassment, Harper nodded in response. Of course, Renée remembered. They had been dating just eight weeks ago before their breakup. It was hard to forget so quickly.
Shaking herself out of her thoughts, Harper acknowledged her ex-girlfriend. "I mean, you better remember. We were dating eight weeks ago..."
The conversation took an awkward turn with the mention of their past relationship. Harper wondered why she had even brought it up. "Harper Stirling?" a barista called, and Harper quickly got up, but Renée grabbed her hand to help her.
Gulping nervously, Harper grabbed her coffee and held onto Renée's hand as they walked out of the coffee shop. "Okay, it was nice seeing you, Renée."
"Hey, wait, Harper," Renée called out, causing Harper to turn around quickly. Despite her attempts to act nonchalant, she had been waiting to hear Renée's voice again. "I'm sorry..."
"Really?" Harper asked, a smile forming on her face.
"Yeah," Renée nodded. Before Harper could respond, she felt something trickle down her leg. Her eyes widened. "Did you just pee yourself?"
Harper looked down and dropped her cup in shock as she felt a pain in her stomach. Renée gasped. "Are you going into labor!?" she asked, and Harper nodded.
"YES!" Harper screamed, groaning as she bent over in pain.
"Shit, okay." Renée grabbed Harper's hand and hurriedly led her to her car, which was parked a short distance away.
