"And now I am become death, destroyer of worlds"
Jericho began the journey towards becoming a master of his own power. The practice of chaos magic in his hometown was strictly forbidden, so Jericho had to get creative if he wanted to practice his craft.
Magic was freely practiced by all of the women in Hesten Village, and in fact, they were encouraged to become powerful sorceresses that would help the world become a safer place. The men in the village, however, were encouraged to build their physical strength, to defend the village from any threat of destruction. The men were strictly forbidden from practicing magic, especially Chaos magic, because of its sheer destructive ability to level out anything it takes hold of. This decision was made unanimously by the chieftains of the village and the High Mage Brea, the wielder of the most powerful magic in all of the land, Vitality magic; the ability to give anything with mass sentience, and to heal any mortal wounds received by the defenders of the village.
Jericho was not like the other men in the village. While they all towered above the rest with muscles that seemed to nearly tear their flesh apart from the inside, with dark skin reminiscent of toffee and hearts of steel; Jericho was smaller than most of the women in the village, and scrawnier than a fresh-born fawn. His hair was unkempt, his eyes darted back and forth remaining ever-vigilant, and he wasn't very good at hiding his ability from the rest of the village. But Jericho still had drive; the willpower of a drove of ox, and he wasn't going to let his natural disadvantages get in the way of him becoming the most powerful sorcerer in Isdrial.
There were stories passed around by the historians of great sorcerers and wizards; men who wielded enormous amounts of power and strength combined. They were leaders of the free world, these men who lay the groundwork for the modern age. But as time went on, these men were soon corrupted by their own power, driven towards greed and an increased detachment from the world they were sworn to protect. Eventually the personalities of the people they were eventually rotted away; and gave free rein for "Mad Kings" to take over their bodies and drive the world into darkness and chaos. Demons ruled the world for decades, and during that period thousands of wars broke out amongst the people. They possessed the power to wipe out millions of people with ease, and they did it while the vessels they occupied rotted away as well, completing the annihilation of the free world as it was. Once the bodies of the leaders decayed beyond repair, the demons no longer held any power over the free world, because they require a host for a physical form, and that requires the corruption of the heart.
Seeing the way the world was headed, the High Mage Brea and her bands of sorceresses spilt away from the influence of the "Mad Kings" and created Hesten Village, a place where no acts of evil were allowed to take any form. This includes the use of magic by males in the village, as it was shown that only the men were corrupted by the "Mad Kings", while the women were always pure of heart, and therefore not influenced by the demons of greed and destruction.
Naturally, Jericho thought this idea was horseshit. He has seen plenty of times a woman's heart consumed by greed and anger; they were just better and controlling themselves than the men were.
Jericho practiced in secret, with spells so mundane that no one could tell he was doing anything. For all they knew, Jericho was really into video games and track cars like any normal kid would be. The tomes he used to study were thrown out books thought to be destroyed by the Hesten villagers, and only a couple of pages were salvageable. Those couple of pages, however, were enough for Jericho to begin his study of magic. Small charms and spells with little to no affect were all he had to go on.
