"Hello."

★————————————★

Exiting back into the underground lab, Penny nearly ran headfirst into another person. Looking up and expecting the worst, she was very relieved to find the female Vinvocci staring back at her in equal alarm.

"It's you!" The alien realized in slight confusion.

"And you!" Penny exclaimed in reply, noticing the male Vinvocci standing behind her. "You're both okay then?"

"Yes, but why are you, human?" The female scientist frowned suspiciously.

"I'm kind of asking myself that same question." She was desperately trying to not focus on it too hard, shoving it to the back of her mind to be dealt with at a less pressing time.

The male alien huffed. "Well, it doesn't matter, we're leaving. Now."

"What?" Penny glanced at the two in alarm. "You can't!"

"Why not? This mission is a failure, we'll regroup and return later." The female alien explained.

"My friends might be trapped or dying right now, if we don't do something soon it'll be too late for a rescue mission for them or your technology!" Penny reasoned. "You really think the Master's gonna just let it sit there for the taking? If you don't act now you might lose it forever!"

The two aliens looked to each other, deliberating. After a long moment, the female Vinvocci turned back to her, determined. "Alright, but we'll need a plan."

Sneaking through the halls proved to be easier than Penny had assumed. Most of the transformed humans were guarding exits, the gargantuan size of the mansion's interior going mostly unsupervised.

The remaining guards were forced onto solitary patrols, only a singular helmeted security force walked past the office room the three had hidden in, none the wiser. His helmet had been taken off, not worried in the slightest.

So he never saw it coming when a rather heavy book bashed into the back of his head, knocking him unconscious.

Penny winced as he hit the floor, heaving the book back onto the shelf she'd pulled it from.

"Out cold." The female Vinvocci confirmed, already beginning to remove pieces of body armor from the limp body.

Her partner shifted nervously. "I'm still not sure about this."

"Well, it's not like either of us could pull it off." She didn't look up from her work as she addressed him. "Unfortunately, we don't have a choice."

"You'll do great." Penny assured, crouching to help the woman. "Remember, as long as you don't talk it'll hopefully be okay. And if not, we'll be close by to help."
