Valerie fell on her knees. Lucifer kneed next to her and placed his hand on her back, trying to calm her down.

"How... how can this...." she was taking small quick breaths as she was trying to form a sentence. Lucifer's heart felt like it had dropped to the ground, seeing her like that.

"I... I have no idea..." he said, trying to come back to his senses. Valerie  was still in shock. Her hands went on her head as she was trying to breathe properly again.

"How... how could something like this happen without you knowing..." she looked at him slowly. Tears had formed into her eyes as they were shaking. Lucifer's body moved quicker than his thoughts when he hugged her. Her tears started spilling on his blazer.

They were still on the balcony as the night deepened. They were sitting in silence. Valerie was looking towatds the countdown clock hugging her knees while Lucifer's eyes were glued on her.

"How could they make such a decision and not tell you anything..." Valerie's voice was weak from all the crying. She was still looking at the countdown clock, hoping that it would go back to its original number, but it never did. Lucifer took a deep breath before he looked down.

"I suppose they were about to tell me..." he said in a guilty tone. Lucifer looked back at her as she stared at him in disbelief. She was visibly hurt and upset, and he could tell.

"What do you mean with that? What's that supposed to mean?" her voice was more steady than before as her hands kept hugging her knees. Lucifer was silent for a moment. His eyes never left hers as he was trying to find the right words to say.

"The angels who are responsible for the extermination wanted to meet me today, but... but you came... you wanted to talk to me again so I couldn't help but come running to you..." he took a deep breath before he looked down. He was conflicted. He was happy he chose to go to her but also felt guilt for not knowing about Adam's horrible decision. He didn't know how Valerie was going to react to all of this. He looked back at her when he felt her warm hand on his. She was smiling at him. Her expression was soft and sweet. Her eyes were sparkling with kindness as she was smiling lovingly at him. Lucifer's body felt like it suddenly came alive when he saw her looking at him like that. The sudden touch of his hand made his heart beat faster, and his breath to quicken. He didn't know what this sudden change in his body meant, but he didn't care. He could only focus on her.

"You really choose to come to me even if you had an important meeting? " she smiled brightly at him, feeling a surge of happiness flow through her body. She couldn't help but feel appreciated and loved. No one had done anything similar for her before.

"We made a promise, remember?" he couldn't help but smile wide with her smile. Every time she was happy, he couldn't help but feel happier. "I would never leave you there waiting. Especially this time..." his voice was filled with guilt. "I've messed up big time." She was still holding his hand when she came even closer to him, holding him tighter.

"We've talked about this, remember?" she smiled softly at his words. Her eyes were still sparkling under the night sky. "Everything's fine. I didn't know you've putted me first." She continued, her tone filled with joy. "Thank you... thank you for being your priority... I am glad to have a friend like you..."

This feeling was new to Lucifer. For some unknown reason, he felt a bitter sting as he heard the tearm friend. He tried to hide it under his smile as he kept looking at her. "Always."

She left a huge sigh as she left his hand, looking back at the countdown clock. "What are we going to do, Luci?"

Lucifer knew she wasn't going to stop without doing anything about it.  She already hated the extermination once a year, but now, with the time cut in half, he knew she wasn't going to accept it without even trying to change it. "What can we do, Valerie? You know I can't do anything to stop it." He tried to distract his thoughts with the conversation. Valerie laid down, trying to put her thoughts in order. She knew last time Lucifer had yelled at her about redemption, but she knew it was their only choice.
