It is far too sunny out for my liking, and it has been like this for far too long, I think its been almost two weeks since its been at least overcast, and man does the sun hurt the eyes after awhile, people around here know me as Jonathan but my friends that aren't from around here know my real name, Zane, I like my real name, but it would be difficult to live a normal life if they all knew me completely.
I am off to school in this lonely town of Shadeshore, and don't let the name fool you, its weather is too nice. The people here are aggravating and too proud for their own good, it is also a cesspool of "sin" and "religion", not that I could care about what they think or care about. My age to the people of the town is 17, my age to those who know me is 427 years of age. At this point you should know I am far from human, I am a demon, born and raised, my mother died in childbirth and I never met my father, so I was mostly raised by the person who currently leads my sector of hell which is where Satan himself once lived before his passing in battle around 700 years ago, the leader mainly is Drei, he and his bride both govern our sector with a ranking system that counts down from fifteen, I am rank 12, which really isn't all too impressive, he and his bride Sapphire both are rank 1 and definitely deserve it, he is known as the greatest swordsman in hell and he commands two higher ranking feral demons, his bride is known as the lady of annihilation and she uses magic to such perfection that its ridiculous. For me, Drei tells me I am the most powerful controller of darkness he has ever seen, I just need to earn ranks, though I think I am simply a novice who can do some tricks. Although demons have one trait others don't have, we will die to protect things we care about, we get a bad reputation due to our appearances and destructive power of our abilities, and for the fact that we let the angels talk humans into thinking we are the worst things one could imagine but there is no good or evil, just the choices one makes to define what you really are inside.
I approach my school and look at it, the building is brick, but its nothing out of the ordinary, just a school with a fairly basic layout, except the pool building that is off to the other side of the courtyard, first period is English, its a pain thanks to being raised with Latin and the demonic language, but it isn't difficult overall. According to my appearance, I am "disguised" so that I look like an average person. So I don't really look all that great in all honesty but if I need to fight, I will have to "die" first. Though I have a few friends in this place, but they all are honest and good people, and its interesting to see how a demon could in fact befriend a human. The two new students that came in last week, I have no trust in them, I think I know what they are but I can't be sure so I have to play it cool, and hope that I am wrong, Drei encourages me all the time to give up the tradition of living a human life so that I could focus on becoming more powerful. By the time my mind had stopped its wandering it was third period, gym, the class that I hate the most, it seems like a place where people can judge each other whenever they please, its not that I am a bad athlete, in fact I am rather exceptional at athletic exercises because of my blood, we are natural athletes and geniuses, so the work of school is easy, now the difficult part is to keep myself from harming humans, they generally have terrible dispositions.
Everything was fine until the bell rang at the end of the day, but the new kids looked like they were about to make a move, and I was more than correct.
"Stop demon, we shall proceed to inflict judgement upon you. Submit and no pain shall come upon you." The older male demon hunter had said, not to me but to my friend. Demon hunters have a tendency to target the wrong person because demons like people with demonic values, but they always kill the demon in the end because a demon will not simply stand by as the things they care about are destroyed. My friend had the look of utmost confusion on her face. "I am special hunter Seric, Vanguard classification, my spear shall be your end." Seric calmly spoke, almost sung. "I am Leann, Special hunter, Lightbringer Classification." Leann said professionally.
Light began to bend around the hunters until their disguises were gone, Seric wore the armor of a Vanguard, heavy armor on his arms and head and lighter armor on his chest and legs, his weapon was a spear with intricate markings on the spearhead, whereas Leann had on a cloak over her average clothing, her gloves revealed themselves, magic, is the weapon of a lightbringer. Just as he was about to impale my friend, I let him impale me straight through the heart. At that moment one could swear the world got darker, clouds flowed overhead blocking out the sun, and shadows pooled towards me like water going downhill, covering me completely, my body became smaller, scrawnier, and when the shadows receded you could see what I really looked like, the spear wound had healed instantaneously, now one could see I was about 5'8", thin, pale, and my eyes, which even amongst demons were unique, my irises were red instead of the normal purple, my hair was as black as the abyss and kept at medium length. Some of the shadows ran down my arm and began forming a weapon in my hand, and when it was finished, I was holding a scythe as tall as I am, the blade itself being three feet in length. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "Any other day would have been nice."
