"I just don't understand why the two of them want to try to get together again," says April drunk. "I mean... my why?"
I don't have an answer to that myself. Her parents never got along and argued constantly, she said.
At her graduation she caught her mother kissing one of her teachers, her father freaked out and hit her teacher.
"Another Tequila Marti," she calls and waves the empty little glass.
Marti looks at me and I nod at him. "She needs it today."
"If she throws up, you wipe it off, Spider-Man's sister." He pours April another shot of tequila and serves someone sitting next to me.
April immediately drinks the tequila and slams the cup on the counter.
"I think I need a one night stand or a vacation," she slurs. "Vacation sounds great, right? Hawaii sounds great." She takes out her phone and clicks on the email app and starts typing.
I take the phone away from her, whereupon she starts to protest, I push her phone away from me and see who she wants to write to. The head of the publishing house.
While she begs Marti to pour her another tequila or whiskey, I write an email to the boss on her behalf. Press drafts and she can then decide whether she wants to go on vacation tomorrow.
I put her cell phone in my pocket and got up from the bar stool, putting Marti's money for the drinks on the counter.
"Good idea," he says as I help April get up.
I roll my eyes as he takes the money and counts it. April isn't much help when she's drunk. The seatbelt got tangled on her arm, I have no idea how she managed it.
Once I get the belt out of her arm, I put it on and close the passenger door and walk to the driver's side.
On the way home it's too quiet, I look at April, who has fallen asleep.
I pull into the driveway and try to wake April up, but she doesn't budge.
I get out and open the passenger door, but she's fast asleep and I can't let her sleep in the car. So I call Hayden, who tells me on the phone that he will be there in ten minutes.
As the headlights block my view of my phone, I put it in my bag and smile as Hayden gets out of his car.
"Thanks for coming." I say as he opens the passenger door and picks up a sleeping April.
"Anything for you, sweet girl," he says.
I open the front door for him, lead him upstairs to April's bedroom, he carefully lays her on the bed and leaves the room so I can take off her dress.
April sleeps in only her underwear in summer and winter, so I take off her dress and am glad there is a zipper. I put her dress in the laundry basket and her shoes in the closet where she keeps her other shoes.
I quickly get her a water bottle and an aspirin and go back downstairs to Hayden, who is sitting on the couch looking at his phone.
When he sees me, he puts his phone away and stands up, grabbing my hips and pulling me closer to him.
"Will she be okay?" he asks and I think it's cute that he's worried about April.
I nod, smiling. I stand on my tiptoes and kiss him, wanting to pull away, but he deepens the kiss and makes me moan.
