Back before the Wonder family was put on trials for Witchcraft, Mercy had known Ray Ranger well.

Ora, Salem 1717

Mercy had found him indulging in all good things Ora had to offer. Which wasn't much. He had a beautiful wife everyone spoke foundly of, one of the best paying jobs a man could ask for, a sword smith. A beautiful farm land, two horses, a pond in the front lawn. Only twenty-two minutes from Town Square. Ray had come to Mercy's grandmothers house one night, begging to speak to her. Mercy was only three years younger than him, but at nineteen years of age, you would have thought he lived double that night by the look in his eyes. Willow Wonder was well known in the town for being all knowing, she always had the answers. An intuition Mercy had never seen in anyone else. "You were right Mrs.Wonder, Misty was with that damned Father Jeshuah's son!". "Lower your voice child..." Willow looks around to make sure her granddaughter went back to her room. Mercy was well hidden behind the bend of the stairs, she moved one step lower to see if she could hear better. Same as the step before. But just clear enough to make out some words. "Hex!?" Mrs.Wonder says accidentally a little too loud, the small sound of a hand slapping and cupping her mouth. Mercy knew the sound well, she had picked up that movement from grandma Wonder.  after all. "My sweet boy, Karma will take care of her. But who am I to say no to a little spell. I'll let Mr.McArthur know to whip up a little something as well. Now run along Mr.Ranger, best not to be caught with a witch in this town".
Mercy darted, as quietly as possible, to her bedroom. Climbing out the window that was placed so perfectly along the stone wall. Balancing was something Mercy typicallystruggled with, but with the urgency she floated along and down. "Mer?" Ray's voice boardered between happy and heartbroken. Although it was always hard for Mercy to pin point his emotions, as it was very few moments anyone ever saw the true Ray Ranger.
