The first time I put highlights in my hair and pierced my ears, I felt like my true self...
My step-dad did not agree with me, though. Beating me up even more than usual.
My mum stood on the side judging me, while also being satisfied to not be the one being harmed.
Later on, when she treated my wounds, she would tell me "I told you so."
I cried all night.
From an early age I've always liked rock music, it is always gonna be my first love.
So, when I was 16, I begged my mum to pay for guitar lessons and after rolling her eyes at me for the 100th time, she said yes.
But, when I arrived at the room, I only saw one big piano in there.
I asked the receptionist over and over if there was a big mistake, but no there wasn't, my mum had signed me for piano instead.
I entered the piano room again and this time there stood a guy, a few centimeters taller than me.
He was reading through a notebook, when I guess, feeling presents in the room, he turned towards me with such a charming and welcoming smile.
"Hi! You must be my new student? I'm Kim Hongjoong and I'll be your piano teacher. Please, call me Mr. Kim." - Mr. Kim said as he approached me with his stretched out hand.
I caught it in a handshake. And quickly let go, averting my eyes anywhere else from Mr. Kim's face. Seeing a painting of a little boy sitting on the ground in a dark room, the only light coming out of the small window on the right above him, he was hugging his legs close to his chest and staring at the window with a far away look in his eyes.
It was weird, but I felt kinda relating to it in a way.
I too felt stuck and dreamed of a better life...
"So, shall we start? San, right?" - Mr. Kim's sweet voice brought me back to reality and I looked at him again. He was smiling very warmly at me.
Which made me blush a bit.
I was used to everyone rolling their eyes at me and pushing me away.
To say that I was kinda antisocial was the truth, but it was for a reason. I was scared of people in general. So, I actually had no friends.
"Come and sit down here." - Mr. Kim pointed at me the big stool in front of the piano, so I obliged.
Afterwards, he sat on it, next to me, our legs touching a little.
"So, San. Have you ever played piano?"
"No." - I answered with a pout.
"So, you are a newbie on this? Have you ever played any other instruments, then?"
"N-no." - Why did I feel like such a loser all of a sudden?
"Sanie? Can I call you that?"
"You are the first person to ever call me that?"
"Really? Do you like it?"
I nodded my head yes and stared at the keys of the piano, so I won't be looking at Mr. Kim.
