The things people don’t tell you,
Are the ones that matter most.
That life is not some party
That you were born to host.
It’s more a business meeting,
A summit at The Hague
Where you are forced to ponder
Big issues that are vague.
Do I take the road before me,
Or one that faces West?
I have no way of knowing
Which path will be the best.
As far as my direction goes,
Will college be my thing?
Or should I chase my other dream
The one where I can sing?
One thing I know for certain,
I need to pay my bills.
But what sort of career
Will give me bigger thrills?
Should I marry this or that one?
Should we buy or just pay rent?
Will this house in the country
Be money wisely spent?
And then there are the children
Who come along as well
And give your life its layers
Of heaven and of hell.
Before you even know it,
You’re rocking on the porch.
Your life is almost over,
It’s time to pass the torch.
