It had been a little over a year since her fiance had gone missing. One minute he was at their local dojo fighting, the next he vanished with the wind. While the local law enforcement has all but given up on his case, Liezel is doing her best to keep his memory alive and find answers to the questions she has been asking since he disappeared.
Jace Herondale is trying to get over the loss of his girlfriend, Clary, now that her memories of the Shadow World are gone. "Try" being the operative word. He cannot help watching her from afar to see how she's getting on in life. It breaks him every time but at least he knows she's safe. It doesn't make the hole in his heart easier to bear.
The two find their lives intersecting as Liezel gets closer to the truth of what happened that fateful day. It is Jace's job to make sure Liezel doesn't stumble across something she isn't supposed to see. It is Liezel's duty to keep pushing even if it means pissing off a guy addicted to leather. But as the two tussle, they become entangled in a mess bigger than themselves as the lies left over from Valentine's Uprising are uncovered.
Lost in a haze of grief and uncertainty, the enemies can only turn to each other to keep afloat. Yet the hardest part is still ahead of them as they get every answer they're looking for and more.
