16: General's Job

Out in the desert, it was a sunny and dry day. Cyno and Tighnari could be seen sitting on a plateau against a tall mountain, hidden in the shade.

"This is fine, I guess.. I feel that I could have brought honey to make it sweeter." Tighnari had made some nice jam out of berries as a little snack.

"On the other hand, I think it tastes just fine. I don't like things too sweet." Cyno said.

"I just think that I could improve my ways to make things that are refreshing and just nice to have at hand." Tighnari didn't seem too satisfied. His drooping ears tell it all. He put his small bowl down and grabbed his big research book.

"I think it'll be some time before those guys down there start moving." Cyno looking down the mountain at a little tunnel where some lowlife scoundrels were camping.

"Henna berries can make up a nice refresher and provide healthy nutrition while being sweet at the same time." Tighnari jotted down some notes on a paper with a henna berry on top of it.

Cyno joined him in watching, putting a hand on the fox's shoulder and pulling him closer. To which, Tighnari moved his arm and scooted closer.

"The seeds can be baked and eaten, but could also be grown to raise more berries." Tighnari scribbled down some more notes. After that, he'd close the book and went back to snacking on the berry jam he had made. "I definitely plan to try more recipes with this fruit."

The General Mahamatra rested his head on Tighnari's shoulder. "You're quite warm. Feeling okay?"

"I'm fine, don't worry." Tighnari responded.

"I do worry." Cyno said. He nuzzled his head against the other, before looking at the fox and giving him a gentle peck on the cheek.

Tighnari's ears intently pointed at Cyno. He put his hand on top of Cyno's, then they intertwined. Just then, his ears detected movement, and he looked down the cliff.

Long after, a couple of Eremites along with a young man dressed like a scholar walked out from the little tunnel. Cyno sighed and leaned off of Tighnari. "It looks like they're finally making a move." He put on his helmet before standing up and pulling out his staff.

"Be careful, Cyno." Tighnari stayed sitting on the cliff. He would support Cyno in the background in case a fight were to break out.

"I will, Nari." Cyno gave him a kiss on the head before heading down.

Tighnari watched as the General Mahamatra made his way down with ease. The Eremites with the Akademiya scholar were startled to see him. He held his bow and arrow ready, as some interrogation happened between the two sides. Tighnari could hear everything being said, the scholar was trying to make up excuses on the spot, but panicked.

He's gonna make a run for it. His panicking is no act, however. Tighnari could tell. It wasn't that the scholar was afraid of being caught, he was just afraid to get hurt. The Forest Ranger readied his bow. Some stuff was about to go down.

The Eremites got defensive. They had confident smiles, but their voices were trembling.

Cyno held his staff up, horizontal with his shoulders.

Tighnari pointed his bow, and shot an arrow down at the group. He took out one of the Eremites, and a sudden group of counter attackers came out from their hiding places. When the fox readied his bow again, he send down multiple arrows in one shot.
