Minna poked at the bruises on her legs. "Why do we even do this?" she muttered.

Laila plopped next to her. "Meh. Cat, pass the anti-bruise!"

A tube came flying over their heads. Minna lowered her head so Laila could catch it. The goalie snagged it out of the air and started smearing it over her own bruises.

"At least we don't get as much as the Ravens gave you."

Minna flashed her a flat look and took the cream from the older girl. "We don't talk about them like that. We're going to face them again someday."

Laila shrugged. "Exy is fun, so we do it, even though we can get injuries. It's like soccer, lacrosse, football—you can get hurt but people play it anyway."

Minna shrugged. She poked at her bruises again, making all sorts of strange faces each time. Jeremy came crashing inside, then promptly turned around.

"Sorry," he said to the wall. "I didn't know you were de-bruising."

Minna snorted. "It's not like we're naked."

"No, but you're all wearing tiny shorts. I might be gay, but I am not watching you guys do that."

Minna looked at Laila. She mouthed, He's gay?

Laila nodded.

Minna sighed. Of course she was the last to know.

Cat came bounding over, balancing four mugs of coffee in her hands. "Hey Jeremy."

"Hi Cat. We're going out tonight. Please get dressed."

Cat and Laila looked at each other and laughed.

"Yeah, yeah," Laila said. "C'mon Minna."

Minna hopped up after Laila and tailed the other girls to the bedroom. Once there, Laila and Cat were rifling through their clothes, urging Minna to do the same. She did, pulling out a pair of striped pants and a white t-shirt.

"You'll get cold," Cat told her.

Minna looked at her outfit. It was November in Southern California, but Minna had grown up in the Northeast.

"Really?" Minna asked.

Laila shrugged. "Just to be safe."

She sighed and grabbed a leather jacket out of her coats. "Happy?"

Cat laughed, and then the girls turned their backs to each other and started changing.

Once done, all three exited the room, Laila and Cat talking with cheer, Minna trailing behind with consideration.

"C'mon!" Jeremy grabbed Minna's hand and dragged her out the door, Cat and Laila chasing after them with laughter echoing.

Minna smiled to herself and agreed that yes, this was good.

Yes, she has to recon once herself that life is good. Yes there are several time skips within the last few chapters. Everything in between is irrelevant. 👍🏼
