An Admin's Monologue

(Fandom: Minecraft)

I shut off the tablet with a sigh, leaning against my base's wall. In a group chat, an Admin had shared a news article that claimed the Watchers had destroyed another server. I couldn't tell if it was true or not, considering some servers ended up destroyed by its own players— Anarchy servers were a major example of this.

Supposedly, the destruction of the server shortly followed the disappearance of one of the 'Players' or inhabitants there. Our server's Librarian had once pitched their own idea for Player disappearances— Something called 'The Vanishing' that started as demovitation and slowly worsened. I couldn't remember much of it.

One of our own had vanished months ago. We were still here- perfectly safe and fine. No symbols of the Watchers either. I had made sure of that when our friend vanished. Maybe that was why the Librarian came up with that idea- They didn't want to believe the Watchers had snatched someone away.

The idea that Watchers stole people came from some guy who claimed they had spoken to him. He claimed to have been alone when they spoke to him- they told him that he failed or something. The guy mentioned they normally rhymed. When a few of us had heard, we had audibly groaned at that news, for one reason or another.

I stretched before turning the tablet back on. I should probably check the server for intruders before one of the Admins in that group pestered me to do so. When was the last time I had done a check anyways?

I began typing on the tablet, scanning for any cracks in the server's stability. Some Admins would focus solely on finding Watchers, not caring to look for intruders for whatever reason. I already had my excuse for not looking for a Watcher ready. If anyone here was a Watcher, what did it matter? They hadn't hurt anyone yet.

And besides, there are tales of runaway Watchers. If someone was a Watcher, they'd likely be a runaway.

...

Though, one thought nagged at my mind. Some Admins despised Watchers, even runaways, as they believed that Watchers just brought danger to servers. They believed in the stories of Watchers hunting down runaways, burning the servers the runaways hid in to ensure it didn't happen again. They believed in stories of servers large and small falling to the Watchers. Of course, they never went after the major server like Hypixel, possibly due to the defenses there.

I wasn't sure if I believed in the stories or not. While they were widely accepted as fact...

I shook my head and turned off the tablet again, turning to the stairs leading to my room. I walked up and sat on my bed, petting my cat who was sleeping on it.

Maybe tomorrow I'd talk to the others about this, maybe they'd have something to say.

Terribly sorry if the text is glitched in any way, as in strange letter or symbols appearing where they shouldn't. Please let me know if you see anything of the sort.

I'd also like to say that I decided to challenge myself with this chapter by not naming a character, to sort of give the server the story takes place in anonymity- It could be any server out there. If any of that makes sense, I suppose.
