"What a delightful surprise, future Doctor Sahiba!" Krishna's grin stretched as he beheld Mohini's warm smile.
After reveling in the celebrations of his brother's engagement, Krishna had made his way back to Delhi, eager to dive back into his studies. Little did he expect that amidst the familiar hostel corridors of his college, he would stumble upon none other than Mohini, adding an unexpected twist to his routine.
"Why the astonishment, future Dharoga ji? I distinctly informed you of my Delhi sojourn. What's got you so flabbergasted?" Mohini countered, her tone infused with a mischievous challenge, as if daring Krishna to come up with a satisfactory explanation for his surprise.
The entirety of the women of Pandit's and Prasad's clan had orchestrated a journey to Mathura and Delhi, embarking on a quest for wedding shopping and extending invitations to kinfolk for Nishita's upcoming nuptials in Pune. Of course, Mohini found herself embroiled in trivial matters against her better judgment, but she couldn't resist her mother's plea, driven solely by the affection she harbored for Nishita.
Krishna shook his head with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Indeed, but I half-expected you to give me the cold shoulder," he teased.
Mohini could have easily brushed off the encounter, but something about Krishna prompted her to concoct a story about meeting an old friend for her parents, sneak into his hostel, and surprise him.
"And why's that?" she inquired, her curiosity piqued.
"I've caught wind of your mother's ingenious plans to expedite our wedding bells—a prospect she seems rather fond of," Krishna remarked, a sly grin quirking up the corners of his mouth.
Mohini choked in her own spit, momentarily taken aback. "What in... in the fucking wor... world?"
Chuckling, Krishna elaborated, "Maa mentioned that Supriya Ji was keen on probing my marital prospects for her daughter, and if I'm not mistaken, you're her only daughter."
Blushing furiously, Mohini groaned, "Please disregard her antics; she's insufferable!"
"Hey, that's downright rude!" Krishna feigned offense, falling into step beside her as they exited his hostel. "Am I not a husband material, then?"
Mohini assessed him with a mockingly critical eye, wrinkling her nose in jest. "You're hardly as dashing as Jiju, so no."
"Oh, the agony!" Krishna clutched his heart dramatically, pretending to be wounded by her remark. "Is fair skin the sole measure of attractiveness, then?"
"Ah, I gather you don't have a preference for fair-skinned dolls, do you?" Mohini quipped, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. "You'd favor a dusky beauty like myself, huh?" Observing Krishna's shaking head and the hint of a shy smile, she prodded, "Hmmm? Seems like you might already have a preference."
Krishna tapped his breast pocket coyly, his gaze fixed ahead, distant. "One never knows."
"Aha, I see," Mohini chuckled, joining in on the banter as they hopped onto his friend's bike. Krishna whisked her away to Parathewali Gali, because what could be more delightful than savoring piping hot parathas while exchanging playful jabs?

As Krishna savored his Gobhi Paratha, he casually prodded Mohini, "So, any romantic escapades on your end? Maybe someone as suave as Jagdish Bhaiyya?"
Mohini let out a wry chuckle, "Romantic escapades? As if I have a spare moment between studying for AIPMT and dodging my mother's matchmaking schemes."
"Hmm... No crushes or admirers, then?" he teased with a mirth in his eye, "Being overly focused on academics can sometimes backfire, you know. You might miss out on the excitement of budding romances or the thrill of unexpected admirers." He leaned in conspiratorially as if sharing sage wisdom gained from personal experience. "Trust me, a little romantic distraction now and then can be just the thing to keep life interesting."
"Haha," she laughed, a mischievous sparkle dancing in her eyes as she gave him a playful side-eye, her fingers eagerly tearing into her Paneer Paratha. "Thanks for the advice, but unlike you, I'm not miles away from my parents, able to freely indulge in the exploration of romantic interests." She took a moment to savor the savory flavors before continuing, "My proximity to home means every move is scrutinized, every potential crush subject to interrogation by the family council."
"I'm not in a relationship if that's what you're hinting at," he retorted, passing her a morsel of his paratha to taste, "I... may have a tiny crush on someone, but it's a bit complicated," he sighed.
Mohini accepted the offered bite, chewing thoughtfully as she pondered Krishna's cryptic response. "Complicated, huh? Has she rejected you, or perhaps shown interest in someone else?" she inquired with a raised eyebrow, her curiosity piqued.
"Tsk, you'll find it trivial, forget it," he waved off her inquiry, attempting to dismiss the topic.
"Fine, keep your love life under wraps, I'm not prying," Mohini declared with a smirk, her eyes glinting mischievously. "But remember, I've got plenty of ammunition to fuel Nishi Di's jests," she added, relishing the prospect of teasing Krishna with her newfound knowledge.
"What!?" Krishna looked at her incredulously as she giggled, "Wait, are you here on Nishita's orders?"
"Bhabhi... she's practically going to be your Bhabhi soon. You'd better start practicing, or else you'll end up as her teasing fodder," Mohini teased.
"Oh, like I'm scared."
"You should be, she's quite the tease. My brother even sheds a tear," she laughed.
Krishna shook his head, finishing his last bite, "She's quite the tormentor, your sister."
"No, she's not. If she's teasing you, it means she likes you and she'll have your back no matter what," Mohini smiled. "Both Devika Di and Nishita Di tease each other, but when push comes to shove, they will give up the world for each other."
"Hmm..."
"I think she's fond of all of you. You, Subhadra, everyone."
"Why do you say that?"
Mohini grinned, "She doesn't have siblings, and even though I was often around, she never quite felt that sibling bond. I reckon she'd cherish you and Subhadra more than anyone else."
"Hmm..."
"So, better start calling her Bhabhi," she nudged his shoulder playfully, to which he chuckled.
"Okay, okay!"

A/N
I find the bond between Mohini and Krishna quite special. They have this natural chemistry that makes them seem like the best of friends. What do you envision for their future? While there are clear indications of what they won't become, do you think they'll maintain a strong and enduring friendship in the long run?
"Jaane Kyun Log" seems fitting for this chapter, although it portrays Krishna immersed in love while Mohini appears to have the opposite sentiment, viewing romance as nothing but tiresome labor.
