Reborn as an Ascended Being

I: The Ritual

Long ago, before the very first atom had ever existed. As the history goes, everything was nothing until it eventually became something. The Big Bang, a huge explosion and the expansion of the universe from the very beginning of time, was triggered by the creator above all.
There existed, Earth. A planet that is fated to inhabit intelligent life. Everything was going exactly the same way it should, until it didn't.

Something messed with this planet in particular, an unknown force inhibited the planet. This force is something that shouldn't have existed in the first place. At first, the gods were confused and reluctant about this. They were unsure if this something that occurred should be let loose. Until they finally decided to let this something be.
This something is the first ever magic, the universe had ever witnessed.

As time pass. The influence of the something had evolved. It adapted to its surroundings, influencing the environment and the creatures around it. At some point, some unintelligent beings like plants and bacteria had learned how to harness the magic of this something.
First were plants, gaining the ability to control the influence made some species stronger against their natural predators. Some even acquired minimal intelligence.
Some plants had learned how to walk, to communicate and to attack others. It's crazy if you think about it. In this universe, plants were superior than any other species.
The question is, how exactly does these plants control magic? To put it simple, as it defies physical science, it does everything that defies physics. Plants had learned to control their surroundings, manipulate the weather in a certain area and even summon puppets and lifeforms that they use as tools for their interests. The limit is non-existent.
Many millenia had passed, as bacteria continued to evolve. There lived the very first species of animals. The struggle they had to go in this world ruled by magical plants was real. At some point, these animals also learned how to harness magic, as it was abundant that time.
The very first war between the two set of species had began. It was very destructive indeed. Everywhere that the wars had occurred became a wrecked battlefield thousands to millions of species dying every hour.
The gods had finally noticed this change. This was not what they were planning for this world to be. It was a decision of panic, they decided to split the universe into two realities.
They had realized that the influence of this something could significantly impact their plans for the universe. They simply had to put it in quarantine.
And then the world was split into two, one magical and one physical. There existed, Earth and Aetheria, the twin planets of the same roots, paving different paths. They are still the same planet, but both exists on different universe. Perhaps, it's something you would call a parallel universe or reality. The gods had never planned to have two universes existing formerly, but they simply had no choice.
Aetheria has been the testing ground of the gods with the strange something they know nothing of. They decided to keep it somewhere to further oversee what it's going to be. On that note, Earth will develop normally as they initially planned. Everything magical has been removed from this side of the world.

After eons of existence, a planet eventually dies. This is the fate of planets that relies on physical science. Earth is doomed to die, as the gods had finally finished their goal for the planet. Unclear as it is, the planet's ending. This was simply not the case for Aetheria. The gods had grown more interested on Aetheria's fate than the Earth they originally planned. The gods didn't even have to interfere for Aetheria to live longer since its foundation is much stronger than a planet that relies on physics.

Earth is dying...
Everything from plants, animals and humans are doomed.
Even with that said, the inhabitants of the planet couldn't care less about the signs their planet is giving. Natural disasters, climate change, drought, overpopulation, the planet's atmosphere shrinking, all of it. People would continue on their day to day lives without paying to these things attention. Naturally, as most of the people don't care, there are few of them who actually does. But unsurprisingly, no one pays them attention.
