Mikros Kosmos - The Greek phrase meaning "little universe"

----------------------

"Do you ever wonder what happens to the stars when they die?" Ryan wondered aloud, gazing up at the sky. "I mean, from a scientific standpoint, the atoms just eventually morph into something new, but... do the other stars around notice when it's gone? Or is it just... gone ?"

Dallon stared at him in wonderment, a soft smile accompanying the look of sheer awe his face adorned for the floating boy in front of him.

"I don't think they're gone. They just become part of something new." he replies, swirling the water in front of him with an index finger. The two had journeyed to a quiet lake on the edge of town, the sounds of cicadas buzzing and crickets chirping being the only thing to disturb the atmosphere, save for the occasional splash of water.

The warm summer breeze swept through Dallon's hair as the smaller boy in front of him stood mostly upright in the water, still looking almost longingly up at the sky. The same way Dallon would look at him.

"Of course they become something different - we all do. Maybe that's what everyone means when they talk about finding that one special person. Maybe when we were stars, and we died and our atoms drifted, some parts found each other and now seek out the rest of the missing pieces. Maybe we all just want to become stars again, in the end."

Ryan's gaze kept focused at the vastness above, as if he was entranced by the darkness freckled in light, casting a gorgeous glow down to them. Dallon's gaze kept focused on the boy who put the moon to shame with his beauty, the droplets of water dotting his skin reflecting the lovely night.

"Ryan." He finally tore his gaze away from the cosmos to stare instead at Dallon as he spoke.

"Yes?"

"I think I've found the rest of my star." And as their eyes met, the sun began creeping over the horizon, as if trying to bear witness to the two universes finally colliding.

"Dallon."

"Yes?"

"I think I have, too."
