"Do you have these in a size 6?" I leaned around the corner to ask the clerk who was stacking some sneakers in a really ugly shade of green.
"Yes, I'll go get them out of the back." She put down the box she was holding and walked past me to a door. I sat down on a bench and waited for her to return. I pulled out my phone and pressed the on switch. There were a series of flashes and the company logo lit up before fading back to black. The back ground was a picture of Allen and I. Allen is my boyfriend. He's very popular. But, then again, so am I.
"Here you are miss." I looked up and saw the lady standing in front of me with an orange box. She set it down next to me and went back to stacking shoe boxes. I put my phone back in my purse and pulled of my shoes. These shoes so cute! I looked down at the silver flats. They had a little satan bow on the toes. I slipped them off and made my way to the register.
"Did you find everything to your liking?" The cashier asked taking my 50.
"Yes sir." I said taking back my change and the back with the flats.
"Have a nice day." He said as I left the store and stepped back into the mass of people. So I have my dress and shoes for tonight's dinner. I'm going to wear the necklace Allen bought me. I have everything I need.
"Ow!" I was so wrapped up in my thought that I wasn't looking where I was going so I ran headlong into someone.
"Are you okay?" I glanced up rubbing my head. I saw a familiar face.
"Will?" I asked a little taken aback.
"Yeah." He said slightly blushing. I stepped back and stared at him. He looked so different. When last school year ended he was a short, nerdy, awkward guy with a squeaky voice. But that guy was gone. Who I saw standing in front of my was a normal guy. No more too big glasses for starters. His braces were off and he seemed to have hit the gym. I could see biceps peaking out of the sleeves of his t-shirt. His hair was shorter now and he seemed to have gelled it to the side. He was also finally taller than me. Not that that's saying much. I'm only 5'3".
"You look great." I said smiling. I chuckled slightly at the look on his face.
"Thanks." He said smiling back.
"I see you've ditched the flannels." I said pointing at his shirt."
"Yeah. I decided it was time for an upgrade."
"Well it definitely payed off." Will's face went scarlet.
"Thanks Luna." He said. I laughed again. Even though he used to be an anti-social weirdo he always could make me laugh.
"Well it was really nice talking to you Luna." He said turning to go.
"Wait." I grabbed the shoe receipt and quickly scribbled on it in black eye liner. "Text me sometime." I smiled folding it in half and dropping it in one of his bags.
"Really?" He said looking confused..
"Really." I said smiling sweetly. He smiled back as I turned and walked all the way to my car.***
"Welcome home sweetie"
"Thanks Mom."
"You have two hours to get ready. Then it's time to leave. Did you find shoes?"
I shook the bag and ran up the stairs to my room. I started by putting on the dress. It's a gray spaghetti strap with light blue and pink flowers. I pulled the shoes out of the box and slipped them on. They went with the dress beautifully. I smiled at my reflection and carefully grabbed the necklace off the desk. It was a simple charm on a silver chain. A dainty heart hung on it, swinging gently as I stared at it. Stringing it around my neck, I walked to another small desk in the corner of my room to freshen up my hair and makeup. I ended up curling my blonde hair and pulling it to the top of my head. I used blue eye liner to bring out the blue of my eyes. I paired it with a shimmery silver eye shadow and light pink blush.
"Luna! Tommy! It's time to go!" My mom yelled up the stairs. I heard my younger brother, Tommy, close his bedroom door behind him. Tommy is a short boy like me. He's in 8th grade. He has blonde hair like me but his eyes are hazel like Dad's. I opened my door and looked over the railing. I saw my family standing below me. My Mom, a short woman who looked like an older version of me. She is wearing a sapphire tube dress with silver heels. My Dad, taller than my mom but still rather short. Wearing a suit with a crisp white shirt and blue tie. He was blonde like the rest of us but with hazel eyes. Tommy, wearing khakis and a gray button up. And Janie, Janie is 10 and in 5th grade. She looks just like I did when I was her age. She is wearing a gray blouse, light blue skirt and pink flats.
"Come on down Luna." my father said spotting me. I headed downstairs and hugged him. "Into the company car please. I'll explain all about the dinner with the Peterson's." Peterson. Why does that name ring a bell? I followed my family to the car and climbed in the back seat. My Dad just started talking about the dinner when my phone buzzed. I looked at it expecting to see Allen texting me. But I didn't recognize the number. I picked it up and looked at the message.
Hey Luna. It's Will.
