As I stand in the dimly lit club, surrounded by the pounding bass of the music and the swirling mass of bodies on the dance floor, I can't help but feel out of place. This is not my scene. I'm a farm boy born and raised in the wide-open spaces of the countryside, not a city slicker who thrives in the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle.
But here I am, dragged out by my brothers, Blake and Jasper, for a night on the town. They're always the more outgoing ones, the ones who can charm their way into any situation. Me, I'm the quiet one, content to stay in the background and observe.
On my way back from the bar -beer is the only thing that is gonna get me through this night- weaving through the throngs of people, feeling like a fish out of water in my worn jeans and flannel shirt. As I approach them, I see a girl sitting with them. She is like a vision in the midst of the chaos, her medium-sized frame moving with grace and confidence. Her brunette hair cascades down her back in waves, and her brown eyes sparkle with mischief. But it is her cherry red lips that catch my attention, full and inviting, drawing me in like a moth to a flame.
When I finally reach them, she greets me with a big smile,"Hey I'm belle" she says as her eyes flicker over each of us in turn before settling on Jasper as we all reply to her in turn. I feel a pang of something unfamiliar in my chest as I watch Belle and Jasper exchange greetings, a twinge of jealousy that I can't quite place.
As the night wears on, I find myself drawn to Belle like a magnet, unable to resist the pull of her presence. I try to engage her in conversation to make her laugh with my clumsy jokes, but she seems more interested in Jasper, hanging on his every word and laughing at his every quip.
I feel like a fool, standing there on the sidelines, watching as Belle and Jasper dance together, their bodies moving in perfect synchrony. I try to push down the rising tide of jealousy that threatens to consume me, but it's no use. I can't shake the feeling that I'm losing something precious, something I've never even had to begin with.
As the night draws to a close, Belle turns to me with a smile that makes my heart skip a beat. "It was nice meeting you, Jackson," she says, her voice warm and inviting. "Maybe we'll see each other again sometime."
I nod dumbly, unable to form a coherent response as she turns and walks away, disappearing into the crowd. I watch her go, a sinking feeling settling in the pit of my stomach. I know then that I've lost something important, something that I can't quite name.
As I make my way home with my brothers, the silence between us is thick with unspoken words. I can feel their eyes on me, questioning and curious, but I can't bring myself to tell them what's weighing on my mind.
We all reach home, and I head straight to my bed, still thinking about Belle. He has long Hazel hair that matches her eyes. The way her dress sat on her body perfectly and hung to every curve breathtakingly but most of all her cherry lips that were always in a beautiful wide smile. But as i get into a bed and settle down, the realization kicks in. She is a city girl, why would she batter an eyelid at anyone like me we probably have nothing on common.
