I blurted it out before I could stop myself.
Ryan muttered "For God sakes" under his breath.
As soon as i saw my mums reaction I regretted asking. Her face had paled, her eyes were wide and her mouth hung slightly open. "Umm" she fumbled for words.
Paul responded before my mother could say anything "Shouldn't you be getting to school now Amy" he had a stern expression that made my stomach turn, Paul was not a man that you wanted to get on the wrong side of. I suppose you could've guessed that with him running one of the most accomplished companies in the murder business.
I looked at the clock that was built into the cooker, the green numbers showing that it was 7.45am. I didn't have to leave for school for another 30 minutes. But after taking one more look at Paul I decided it would probably be best for me to go, even if it meant I would be early.
"Uh yeah, bye" I quickly spluttered out. I grabbed a piece of toast from the table that my mother had put there previous to my question about Jasper.
I exited the kitchen and ran upstairs whilst eating the toast I had picked up. I grabbed my light blue backpack from my bed and slipped a knife into a secret compartment that I had made in the back. I unplugged my phone from its charger and pushed it into my bag, along with the books I needed for the day. I walked into my bathroom and quickly brushed my teeth.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror, no one would know just by looking at me that I was an assassin. I had a plain face, the only thing standing out was my eyes, they were a piercing emerald green colour. But I didn't look intimidating or scary like Paul did and even Ryan did sometimes. I guess that was an advantage for me though, no one questioned me. I just looked like a sweet, innocent 19 year old.
I heard Ryan shout from downstairs telling me to hurry up. He always gave me and my sisters a lift to school, he himself had left school a year ago to join the family business full time. Which I will be doing at the end of this year after graduating.
Ryan met me at the bottom of the stairs by the porch, he looked disappointingly at me but didn't say anything as I leant down to put my pumps on.
We walked back into the kitchen where Hannah and Lucy sat. My mother, father and Henry weren't in there anymore. They were no doubt somewhere talking about my question.
"Han, Lucy come on it's time to go" I motioned towards the door.
"Amy" Hannah said whilst tying her hair up
"Yes Hannah"
"Why did you make mummy cry?" She questioned
"I..I didn't" I stuttered "she must just be hormonal, she's only just given birth remember" I tried to make up an excuse.
"Is she okay now?" She enquired
"Yeah she's fine, now hurry up and get your shoes on" I said ushering the pair of them towards the porch where their school shoes lay.
After 5 minutes of faffing around getting Hannah and Lucy's shoes, coats and bags sorted we were on our way to school.
I arrived at school and waved Ryan goodbye but he didn't wave back. Obviously still pissed at me for asking mum about Jasper.
I walked towards my locker which was in an out building right next to the main school building. But before I could get there someone jumped on my back.
I reacted immediately, quickly grabbing the persons arm and twisting it whilst dropping my shoulder to shrug them off. It was a habit from training getting someone off your back as soon as possible, it's where you're weakest. The person let out a small squeal as I got them on there knees with their hand twisted behind they're back.
As soon as I realised that it wasn't a threat just my best friend being an idiot I released her and apologised.
"Amy, you watch way too many Karate films" my best friend Maya moaned whilst rubbing her wrist.
"Sorry. they're too good." I chuckled "Chuck Norris is my idol".
"You're weird" she laughed back before delving into a conversation about someone's new boyfriend as we walked to the lockers, put away our bags and walked back out of the lockers on to a bench overlooking the car park and the front of the main school building. I never really listened to gossip, it bored me.
Maya was my only friend in school, not that I was a loner or a nerd or anything in fact I was quite popular, but being an assassin it's not good to be close to anyone. You put their life in danger. Luckily for me Maya's two older brothers Oliver and Nate are also assassins so she's safe. We had actually met through my friendship with Nate, who was my training partner for just over half a year.
Maya stopped rambling and flicked my arm "ow what was that for" I asked, rubbing the red mark that was slowly appearing on my arm.
"You're not listening to a thing I'm saying are you" she crossed her arms over her chest, annoyance clear on her face.
"I was, you were talking about boys and clothes and um stuff like that" I tried but failed to guess what she was talking about, but luckily something else had caught her attention.
I followed her line of sight. She was staring at a student, I guessed he was new because I'd never seen him before. He had black skinny jeans on with a plain white t-shirt and brown Chelsea boots. He also wore a grey beanie covering most of his hair with the odd brown curl peeking out. And he wore Ray-Bans over his eyes.
I wondered why people started to stare at him, he was nothing special. But then I noticed his car, he had just gotten out of a Ferrari. It was beautiful, one of my dream cars.
"He's hot" was the first thing Maya said to me when the door to the building shut behind the boy.
"He was well far away, how can you tell" I asked her
"He was dressed nicely, and he has a nice car" she said decisively, as if that was enough to prove that he was hot.
"Okay then, if you say so" I said mainly sarcastically but also slightly seriously, Maya was not one to be argued with.
The bell rung signalling form time was about to begin. Me and Maya said a quick goodbye before heading to our different form rooms.
I sat down in my usual seat at the back by the window. There was a seat next to me which my bag sat on.
More people filed in. The girl who sat in front of me, Haley, gave me a quick smile, which I returned, before she took her seat.
Our form tutor Mr Henries walked in to the room and dropped a collection of files onto his desk before taking a deep breath.
"Morning class" he bellowed cheerfully, he was quite a plump man, his face was predominantly a shade of red, meaning he either ran to school today or he had gone heavy on the alcohol this weekend, my money was on the latter.
"Morning" a few people muttered back unenthusiastically but this didn't seem to phase Mr Henries as he sat down and grabbed the register off the top of his files.
"Right" he began "Riley" he waited for a 'yes sir' before moving onto the next person and so on. He was a few names away from my own when the door swung open. I didn't look up at who it was, I was too busy doodling Dolphins in my planner. Dolphins were by far my favourite animals, the brainiacs of the sea world. I liked them because of how underestimated they were as a species, they were probably smarter than half the football playing dimwits who liked to call themselves 'jocks' in my school.
Mr Henries stopped calling out names in the register at the intrusion and instead said "Ah there you are, I was just about to send someone to the office to get you"
"No need" his familiar thick accent filled my ears.
I looked up to the door and dropped the pencil I was holding, it smashed against the table and bounced onto the floor.
"No" I muttered to myself.
The boy at the doorway looked my way and smirked. That stupid smirk. I wish I could shoot it off his face.
Why was Harry Styles in my form room.
