you've dipped my toes far too deeply
into the water,
and I blamed you for the cold
when I lifted my arms
to let the lake wash over my sunken body,
bathe it with uncertainty,
and bare it to insanity.
it's true.
it was your fault.
I sank into the bottom,
my hands above my head,
pinned to the shallows,
my sheets atop my bed,
shrunken by your shadows.
so I swum further down,
deeper and darker
than what you think of me,
a siren luring your captaincy
into a pleasurable piracy.
and I dive further down,
down,
down,
like a woman from Atlantis
watching you by the dock, feigning,
like a woman from the Mariana Trench,
watching you from the shore, scheming.
but I'm just a girl.
I'm just a girl
beneath the lake,
drowning,
struggling,
slowly dying
just because
I've dipped my toes far too deeply
into the water,
and I blamed you for the cold
when I lifted my arms
to let the lake wash over my sunken body,
bathe it with uncertainty,
and bare it to insanity.
it's true.
it was my fault.
