kurosu let you sit around for most of practice, occasionally making you refill waters, toss balls for some drills, etc.

every now and then when the boys had a water break he would come over to you to ask if you knew how to handle certain responsibilities like, stats, scorebook, taping, and a list of other mundane tasks.

you would give him a reassuring nod, and remind him that you had done those things multiple times, but he would continue to come by and ask the same questions, sometimes he would even test you.

you wished the actual manager was here to help you though. she was nice.

practice was over 2 hours later. most of the boys had started to filter out when coach kurosu came up to you as you packed your things.

"y/n."

you paused, looking over your shoulder briefly before turning back to your bag. "yeah?"

"watch film from itachiyama and take notes, please." you were about to ask exactly what he was looking for, but he stopped you before you could even open your mouth, "like you did last time. weakness, strengths, and so on."

you finally turned around and nodded, "okay."

with a thank you he walked away. he turned to the few boys that were still in the gym. "if you're staying remember to clean up and lock the doors, and don't get hurt."

there was a collective hum of agreement, but most of the boys who gave any sort of response weren't staying.

coach kurosu turned to atsumu with a scowl. "atsumu, don't get hurt," he repeated, his tone firm.

atsumu raised his hands in defense, "why are you directing that towards me?!"

"because i know you're the only one staying to practice." coach kurosu scoffed, glaring at the boy who only gave a sheepish chuckle in response.

kurosu sighed as he watched atsumu walk back onto the court, pulling a ball cart behind him. "i'm serious, miya."

atsumu scrunched his nose at the name, turning to face his coach.

"okay, okay. i'll be careful."

"good." with that, kurosu finally tossed him the keys to the gym. he turned to you, "keep him out of trouble?" without waiting for a response he disappeared out the door.

during their conversation the remaining boys had left the gym. osamu mentioned something about joining you and kita, then he was gone, but you weren't sure if you had heard him right.

that just left you atsumu.

you met his graze briefly, smiling at him. he returned the gesture, watching as you gabbed your backpack, tossed it over your shoulder, then slipped your hands through the straps.

you hesitated for a moment, "i'm gonna go study. be careful, 'tsumu."

atsumu's smile faltered as you turned away, his fingers tapping against the ball cart nervously.

"hey, y/n, wait."

you obliged, a familiar, fuzzy feeling pooling in your chest. you turned back around, tilting your head up at him to meet his eyes as he came up to you.

"i thought you didn't like it when we didn't talk."

his words had an almost teasing undertone, but you tried to ignore that. "i don't," you assured him.
