Love... ahh even the thought of it makes you get butterflies buzzing, "But why do I feel this way?"
That is what I would think when I see someone that I find attractive, I would feel... my heart drum louder, I would feel a presence trespassing my mind as it steals the spotlight from anything else, my eyes fixated on their eyes as I would sit there and wonder what would they say next, and a warmth that takes over my body as I would sit there with my tongue tangled as I marvel at them.
Besides that, my heart holds a deeper truth, as to why Love is so powerful.
Logically it's an emotion every human feels that involves the brain releasing chemicals and hormones, that trigger a variety of physical and emotional responses.
Psh they make it sound so easy but it's far from that.
Love is beyond a feeling or anything logical, actually, it defies logic and reasoning in every way.
Love which my heart is telling me is a gift that we take advantage of just as we take advantage of our mornings and nights.
Love is a power bestowed upon us by something greater than we can fathom, which makes its beauty unlike anything life has given us.
Love is also quite common and it takes upon different forms like a chameleon, we see it in movies, read it in books, and feel it ourselves.
Love is a journey that we embark on and explore whether it's with our loved ones, a significant other, a deity we worship, or perhaps a love towards something you want to accomplish.
Love is like a game of poker in which at times you lose all your chips and it would sting harder than any other hornet wasp in the world or win the Jackpot and be as happy as any man or woman that wishes for that same happiness.
Love is a dream in which at times we become so captivated and enamored by the possibility of it that it soon becomes Hope.
Love is a force that keeps you moving, a driving force that motivates us despite obstacles that have been stationed within our lives to make us falter.
I sadly have been in that situation once, when I thought that the girl who I once loved would be there forever.
I remember a time when I once was enchanted by her ocean-like eyes, her bright and blissful hair that radiates her beauty into the stars above, her smile that was warmer than any summer that had come before, and her soul that was pure and brighter than any light created.
The aftermath stung me for a long time as I fell into a deep despair, succumbed to distractions, and to put it lightly succumbed to desires. In order to block out the pain rather than facing it head-on and coming to terms with it.
Eventually I came to the conclusion that I was going at it the wrong way, rather than trying to find a replacement for a broken egg make use of it and create something new, the love I felt for this girl will never be replaced but it does give me the opportunity to create something new with someone else and start something even more beautiful.
Another girl showed me this, as I too fell for her, she brought hope back to a long frozen winter that raged in my heart for a long time and made it a warm paradise. Although I was rejected once again this time I didn't give in because I finally understood what Love is.
Love in the words of my favorite actor of all time Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting
"I'd ask you about love, you'd probably quote me a sonnet. But you've never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable. Known as someone who could level you with her eyes, feeling like God put an angel on earth just for you. Who could rescue you from the depths of hell? And you wouldn't know what it's like to be her angel, to have that love for her be there forever. Through anything. Through cancer. And you wouldn't know about sleeping sitting up in the hospital room for two months, holding her hand, because the doctors could see in your eyes, that the terms 'visiting hours' don't apply to you."
He means that Love is extraordinary from the way you look into their eyes to the memories you make with them and that it has a lasting impact on your life whether it goes well or not but you should never regret falling in love no matter how much pain transpires you must never regret it because then regretting it would be regretting a gift given to you whether that gift is there to be with you forever or it is used as a lesson.
Love can teach us so much about life and the many good things it holds and once you are done experiencing the bad things "It will wake you up to the good stuff you weren't paying attention to" -Robin Williams, Good Will Hunting
(Yeah gonna be using a lot of references from that movie since it's my favorite movie of all time).
As to what I meant by not regretting who you decide to love there is this scene from once again Good Will Hunting where Sean is explaining to Will about Game 6 of a baseball game and how his friends at the time had tickets for the game, he was then at this bar with his friends when this beautiful girl caught his eyes, right when his friends were about to leave and go to the game he slid his ticket across the table and said "Sorry guys I gotta see about a girl."
And that is how it started and then he begins going on, while Will got frustrated on why he decided to miss Game 6 to hang out with a random girl. Then he explained why he doesn't regret missing Game 6
"No, I'm not kiddin' you, Will. That's why I'm not talkin' right now about some girl I saw at a bar twenty years ago and how I always regretted not going over and talking to her. I don't regret the 18 years I was married to Nancy. I don't regret the six years I had to give up counseling when she got sick. And I don't regret the last years when she got really sick. And I sure as hell don't regret missin' the damn game."
He loved her so much that he was willing to give up tickets to the biggest game of his time just to talk to her that is love when you care for someone so much that you prioritize them above everything else.
It's about seizing the moment, cherishing those irreplaceable experiences, and embracing vulnerability.
Love makes you do things that defy logic and reason as I stated earlier, but it's those very acts that define its essence. In my journey, I've come to understand that love isn't about finding the perfect person but rather about seeing an imperfect person perfectly.
It's about the growth and transformation that occurs within you, the lessons learned, and the strength gained.
Love teaches patience, resilience, and the beauty of selflessness. Even when love brings pain, it also offers an opportunity for growth.
Each heartbreak, each rejection, paves the way for deeper understanding and a more profound appreciation of love's true nature. It's not just the romantic connections but the love for friends, family, passions, and even oneself that shape our lives into something extraordinary.
Each experience with love, whether it brings joy or heartache, adds to our personal growth, teaching us valuable lessons about empathy, compassion, and resilience.
When we open ourselves to love, we embrace the possibility of both immense joy and profound sorrow. It's in these moments of vulnerability that we truly learn about ourselves and others.
The beauty of love lies in its ability to inspire us to become better versions of ourselves, to strive for deeper connections, and to cherish the fleeting moments that make life worth living.
Love encourages us to look beyond the superficial and appreciate the inherent worth of those around us. It reminds us that the imperfections we perceive in others and ourselves are what make us unique and deserving of love.
By accepting and loving others as they are, we learn to accept and love ourselves.
In the end, love is about the journey, not the destination. It's about the memories we create, the bonds we forge, and the strength we gain from both the highs and lows.
It's about finding beauty in the simplest gestures, the quiet moments, and the shared experiences that make life meaningful. So, embrace love in all its forms. Allow it to guide you, to challenge you, and to transform you.
For in love, we find not only a reflection of our deepest desires and fears but also a pathway to our truest selves. That, perhaps, is the greatest gift of all.
That is Love.
