Jack groans on the couch in the cabin and I make fresh herbal tea while he rests. Erebon helps gently wake him, after calming down himself. With the three of us, Erebon loses the sharp edge from before.
"Hey, wake up, you okay buddy?" Erebon growls over him, "Jack?"
I finish making a pot of peppermint tea and I come over with the tray and some cups while Jack shuffles up onto the armrest and leans back, looking around the cozy cabin.
Erebon moves back and sits on a rocking chair, while I sit cross legged on the red mat next to the coffee table and Erebon. I then start to fill the mugs.
"Becca won't be much longer, she'll come and heal you," I reassure Jack.
"I want to go home," Jack puts a hand to his eye and nervously looks at Erebon, "You're skinny, but you punch hard."
"I'm skinny? Look who's talking," Erebon chuckles while rocking on the chair, his ankle over his knee and his hands behind his head. I look back and up at Erebon, as he looks down at me sitting on the floor... and I feel like he gets some kind of naughty ideas behind those horny eyes. He might make fun of my sex drive, but he wasn't much better. I sigh and shake my head.
"He's not that skinny, he just doesn't wear fitted suits – they're too big," I tell Jack, and when I quickly glance again at Erebon, he fixes the scruff of his collar, looking nervous.
"I do? They're my fathers, I'm the same size he was," Erebon grumbles at me.
"Maybe if you worked out more," I tease him.
"Cheeky omega," Erebon smirks at me and I blush, "Hey Jack, why don't you let me call your packhouse and I'll organise your return?"
"I'll go back myself," Jack shakes his head, "I won't need an escort."
"Alright," Erebon jumps up and moves for the door, calling someone on his phone, "Be right back," he tells us both and exits the cabin, strategically leaving Jack with me. Erebon is definitely not going to listen to a teenager – he's going to take control. I'm kind of glad, I don't want Jack running back all on his lonesome.
Jack now relaxes with me, "You remind me of my mom," Jack tells me right off the bat, even smiling for me with one eye swollen shut, "I love peppermint tea, how'd you know?"
"I have good instincts," I wink and laugh, instantly bonding with young Jack – he was a good kid, I could tell, "I want you to tell me more about your story."
"Well I was angry, I didn't explain very well," Jack picks up the peppermint tea and takes a sip, "I have the best father in the world – Seth isn't just an Alpha. He's a therapist. He's also a boxer. And also like... really in love with my mom. To be clear."
"Which is why it hurt to hear of the crime," I murmur quietly and Jack nods, "You know," I continue, "I'm sure the story is much bigger than just what it sounds like. Rumours always focus on the bad parts."
"It is... and I love my parents, I just hate that I was conceived like that – that my mom was so scared and housebound while I was a child, and I had no idea. I thought she was totally normal, perfect momma," Jack's eyes glaze over, "She's Seth's Luna now. She used to be a human. When they met in therapy, 5 years after the crime, when I was just 5 years old... they didn't recognise each other. It was the awstone, it messes with your mind. Seth had no idea it was her. They fell in love in therapy – but he wasn't another client, he was her therapist. Weird huh. He followed a witch's advice on how to find redemption, and she told him to help others. Or something like that," Jack murmurs all this quickly, "I've never seen anyone love each other as much as my parents love one another, so at least that helps. And my momma forgave him. And apparently the moon goddess gave her forgiveness too... if you believe in that sort of stuff," Jack says sceptically, unsure.
