Yoo Joonghyuk was a priest who served a God yet, unlike his fellow clergy members, whose gods were known and celebrated, Yoo Joonghyuk's devotion was shrouded in mystery. His small temple who also serves as his house, nestled in the village, whispered tales of his steadfast faith, yet the identity of his deity remained hidden. Bewildered by his unwavering commitment, the townsfolk dubbed him the "Worshipper of the Unseen," pondering the depths of his undying devotion.
One night, as he lay nestled in the embrace of sleep, a voice, both strange and oddly familiar, broke through the silence.
[Yoo Joonghyuk.]
“My God, Was that your real voice?”
[That’s right.]
“….I can hear it surprisingly well.”
Yoo Joonghyuk rose from his bed, the moonlight casting a soft glow upon his face as he stood in quiet reverence.
"How may I serve, My God?" he whispered, his voice tinged with awe and respect.
[Yoo Joonghyuk,] the voice echoed, [I am deeply moved by your unwavering devotion, even though I do not offer riches or grant wishes like other deities. Your loyalty is a rare and precious gift.]
"My God, you don't need to thank me for something so simple."
The voice responded with a soft, melancholic laugh, filled with unresolved pain.
[That simple thing is all I have, so I must thank you.]
Yoo Joonghyuk looked up at the night sky, a gentle smile forming on his lips. "I will do everything for you, my God."
The next day, Yoo Joonghyuk woke up with a pain in his heart. He couldn’t understand why he felt so restless right after waking up. He gazed at the sky, clutching a pocket watch he had taken from his desk.
"My God, are you there?"
But there was no answer from Yoo Joonghyuk's God.
Yoo Joonghyuk couldn't shake off the feeling of restlessness, but he couldn't let it deter him. He got out of bed and prepared himself to join raid teams, fight monsters, or tackle everything alone as he often did.
In this world, numerous gods were served by priests, and a god's power depended on the number of devoted followers. As you might have guessed, Yoo Joonghyuk's god was the weakest of them all.
His god wasn’t known to people; in fact, Yoo Joonghyuk was the only worshipper this god had. Yoo Joonghyuk couldn't recall exactly how he came to know of his god, but from a young age, he began having dreams about him.
The figure’s face was always blurred, yet in a world where Yoo Joonghyuk faced relentless harshness and cruelty, the man in his dreams was a beacon of warmth and kindness. He smiled at Yoo Joonghyuk and treated him as if he were the most precious thing in the world, offering a stark contrast to the cold reality he lived in.
These dreams became a source of solace for Yoo Joonghyuk. Despite the mystery surrounding his god, the comfort and care he felt in those dreams fostered a deep sense of devotion within him. As he grew older, this devotion transformed into an unshakeable faith, compelling him to serve the unknown god with a fervor that bewildered others.
The other priests, who served gods with known names and tangible powers, often scoffed at him, unable to understand why he remained loyal to a deity that provided neither wealth, wishes or power.
As Yoo Joonghyuk arrived at the area where monsters lurked, whispers filled the air around him. It was no surprise; after all, why would someone be so foolish as to worship a weak god?
