I trudged up the steps of the narrow yellow house with my luggage in one hand and Percy's hand in the other. We were laughing about some joke he had made, only I wasn't really listening to what he had said. I had hardly slept since Tartarus because of those terrible nightmares. Every time I tried to sleep I would wake up an hour later in a cold sweat with clammy hands struggling to breath. Percy somehow always knew when I needed him and would scoop me up into his lap as he rocked me back and forth. The way he whispered in my ear saying everything would be okay, his warm breath tickling my skin and as he planted gentle kisses on my forehead always calmed me down. In his arms I felt safe like nothing could harm me, but it was never enough to help me fall asleep again.

Percy looked over at me, his face clouded with worry, but I knew he wouldn't say anything because he didn't want to upset me. I knocked on the door and heard the shuffling of feet and my two little brothers, Bobby and Mathew, chattering away.

My stepmom Helen opened the door and greeted us with a warm smile saying," Hello Annabeth, Percy! " While hugging me gently and shaking hands with Percy.

"Fredrick the kids are here!" she yelled toward the stairs of the house.

"It's so nice to see you again Percy, last time I met you was so long ago!" Percy had met my parents once before when he was 14 while on a quest to Mount Tam aka Mount Othrys.

Helen ushered us inside and my twin brothers ran over and gave me a hug.

Mathew yelled, "Percy!" and ran to him. Percy knelt down to give them high fives and I smiled softly.

My dad came downstairs and greeted Percy and I then retreated back upstairs to his study.

"Helen, I'm going to go show Percy his room" I said, gripping his hand and dragging him up the stairs.

Percy followed me down the hall and into the guest bedroom directly across from my room.

He set down his bags and sprawled out on the bed and I laid next to Percy facing him. He had that look in his luminous green eyes that made me want to melt right then and there.

"Beth," he said while twirling a stand of my blond curly hair in his fingers," have I ever told you how amazing you are?"

I looked at him and laughed. The corners of his mouth twitched upwards in a toothy grin. He loved making me laugh.

"Eh, you've got your pros." I replied, holding back a laugh. He stuck out his bottom lip and looked at me with pouty, glittering eyes.

" Is that all I get?" he complained, his puppy dog eyes staring straight at me.

I reached my hand up to the back of his neck and pulled his face to mine giving him a tender peck on his soft lips.

"All better?" I asked him.

He grinned at me and put his hands on my waist lightly pulling me flush against his chest. Our heads tilted to the side as our lips met and a feeling of warmth and safety washed over me. I could feel him smiling as he gently trailed his lips over mine.

"I love you Wise Girl" he said into my mouth.

I shuddered as I felt his warm breath on my lips. "I love you too Seaweed Brain."

A weary feeling washed over me and I attempted to fight it. My eyelids grew heavy and the feeling of Percy's arms around me calmed me. I fell asleep with my head on his chest as he rubbed small circles on my back the way he knew I liked. As I slept a familiar setting came to my mind and I recognized it as the pits of Tartarus. I had had this dream before so many times I could no longer keep track, but it still petrified me very time. Below me I heard the familiar voice of Percy. He was hanging onto my hand and below us was the pit to Tartarus.

"I have to let go Annabeth, I'm sorry! I can't let both of us die!" he yelled over the current of wind threatening to pull us down at any moment.

"No! Percy you can't! I can't do this without you!" I sobbed tears gushing out of my eyes.

My heart felt like it was shattering into million pieces the sharp fragments stabbing at my insides.

"I'm so sorry Annabeth. I love you." he said, tears streaming down his face and then he let go of my hand and fell into the endless black depths of Tartarus a loud scream echoing all around me.

"No, Percy!" I screamed, my voice ripping at my throat." I-I can't do this without you." My voice broke as a sob racked through my body.

My grip on the rocks above me slipped and I was only holding on by a finger. The rocks above me slid off into the pit and I went along with them. I tried to scream, but my voice was hoarse from yelling.

I landed in water. I don't know how I survived the fall. It was pitch black and the water was tossing me around. Something wrapped around me and I instantly knew it was Percy. He made an air bubble around us and held me close to him. I sobbed into his dry shirt and he rubbed circles on my back whispering reassurances in my ear.

My eyes snapped open and I shot up from the bed. My heart pounded in my throat and my arms were covered in goosebumps. I felt tears streaming down my face, more threatening to spill out of my gray eyes. Behind me I felt Percy's gentle hands scoop me up into his arms and pull me against him.

"Hey, Annabeth, it's okay. I'm right here. Everything is fine. You're fine. We're fine." His tone was gentle and soothing.

He rocked me back and forth in his arms and planted a gentle kiss on my forehead.

" I-I had the dream again." I sputtered through tears.

"I know, it's okay. I'm right here." he whispered into my ear.

I pressed my face into his blue hoodie and took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of salty sea air. Percy wiped my tears away with his hand and moved my hair out of my face. I rested my head on Percy's chest listening to his steady heart beat and watched his chest rise through my teary eyes. Soon my own heart beat returned to normal and the tears dried up, but Percy still held me in his arms, burying his face in my hair and rubbing circles on my back.

Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed!
