Cassie was facing too many problems with not enough solutions that she could think up. Between the walkers and the Governor the group was trapped in a position they didn't want to be in.
She had asked Glenn to check on the walkers situation inside the tunnels hoping it would distract him from his rage. Cassie understood why he felt that way but she couldn't with a good conscience let him go after the Governor.
She had went to sit outside of the prison in the small courtyard, finding an old picnic bench to sit on as she watched the fields from a distance song with Rick. He was still in the same position she had last seen him in.
She sighed at the small amount of peace she could get to let her mind rest. She had seen her twin be in charge of things many times throughout her life but never had she been the one to take charge with him around. Rick was always there.
It was just one more reason for her to be pissed at Daryl for leaving her on the side of that road. He knew Rick was having trouble after Loris death and since then he had taken more leadership with the group.
But then he was gone and it left Cassie to step up to help everyone. Glenn was also trying to be a leader of some sorts but his rage over what happened at Woodbury clouded his decision making.
She knew the Governor was coming there was no scenario where he wouldn't. She knew they were no match to all his men and weapons but their only other option that Hershel was in favour for was going on the road.
But the more Cassie thought it over the less it sounded like they would make it. They barely scraped by during the winter and that was back when Hershel still had two legs.
Plus they had Judith now whose cry's would attract any walkers in the area to their exact location. It wouldn't be safe out they but with an impending attack on the way where they any safer where they were?
Cassie was trying to get a grasp on it all lost in her own head when the sound of a door opening then the tap of crutches against the pavement brought her back. She turned to see Hershel approaching her making his way round to sit next to her on the small bench.
"I'm sorry for not being in there just not I just needed some time" she told Hershel who chuckle lightly at her apology.
"That's not why I'm here Cassie" he told her before he started looking over her face "How are your bruises?"
"Oh these their fine, you should have seen the other guys" Cassie tried joking hoping Hershel might join but he just smiled sadly "I'm managing"
"I can tell. From the way you've been handling things with everyone you seem to be doing alright" Cassie thought she had gotten away with showing she was okay "But I've had my own daughter long enough to know your not really okay. Your allowed to miss him"
It was almost like Hershel could tell saying Daryl's name would cause her to get slightly upset. Talking about the man was like walking on egg shells around Cassie.
"You more than anyone should. What you two have-"
"Had Hershel" Cassie cut him off to correct him "We don't have anything anymore. He threw that out when he walked away"
"You do love him. Maybe you can't see it right now due to your anger which is justifiable but you'll see it again" he told her.
"I very much doubt that but it's a nice thought Hershel" she agreed "But anyways without him here and with Rick grieving I'm trying to take charge but I don't know what to do"
"You do Cassie. What you did earlier today, stopping Glenn from going to Woodbury calming the others you did exactly what Rick would. You are a leader Cassie it's in your blood" Hershel reassured her and it was something Cassie really needed to hear.
