AADHRITI'S POV :

"That would look amazing on the lower side."

"No."

A sharp voice cut through the silence of the main hall, making me turn my head toward the source.

"It would look better if you placed it on the upper corner of the board", I rolled my eyes, already irritated. He always had to interfere. Ishan Oberoi—an overconfident, insufferable know-it-all.

"It's my responsibility, and I know how to handle it. I don’t need your suggestions," I snapped, pinning him with a sharp glare.

The teacher had assigned me the task of decorating the house board for the upcoming event, and I had been doing just fine—until he showed up. Shaking off my frustration, I turned back to my work, picking up the picture to pin it exactly where I wanted.

That’s when I felt it.

A breath—warm, teasing—ghosting over the side of my neck.

"It’s completely your choice," his voice dropped to a murmur, dangerously close, "but won’t you at least consider my opinion, Miss Khanna?"

I froze.

My fingers tightened around the pin, my body stiff with tension. He was too close, his proximity unsettling, yet oddly familiar.

"Ishan, what are you doing here? I told you to collect books from the library", the teacher’s voice echoed from the corridor, snapping the moment in half.

Ishan stepped back instantly, putting a respectful distance between us.

"Sorry, ma’am. I’ll go right away", with that, he disappeared. I exhaled deeply, as if I had been holding my breath all this time.

Once I was sure he was gone, I resumed my work. But for some reason, his words lingered in my mind. My fingers hesitated as I looked at the picture.

Would it really look better in the upper corner?

Shaking my head at my own thoughts, I pinned it exactly where I had planned.

But as I stepped back to admire my work, something felt... off.

Minutes passed, and despite my reluctance, my hands moved on their own. Before I could second-guess myself, I had already shifted the picture to the spot he suggested.

The worst part? It actually looked better there.

I groaned inwardly. "No, Aadhriti. What the hell are you doing? Are you seriously following his advice?"

Frustrated, I yanked the picture off and pinned it back to its original place. But the feeling of dissatisfaction didn’t leave me.

Eventually, after much internal conflict, I gave in and moved it back to the upper corner.
