Shane collapsed in a clearing as far away from the house as she could run. She was feeling so many things at once that she felt numb. Anger. Sadness. Hatred. Loss. Pain. Desperation. Fear. Worry. All these things mixed in a suffocating cloud in her mind. No thoughts could escape that cloud besides panic.
She paced the circular clearing, holding her head in her hands. Nothing made sense. So suddenly she felt like she was an entirely different person. The moment she heard the name Blood Sear it felt like something snapped in her. Some distant, aged rope that had weathered many storms finally broke under the stress of this new knowledge. Her muscles and bones ached with a fiery pain. Her eyes felt hot, and her vision because blurry and tinted red.
"What's... happening to me?" She cried, the words being forced out of her mouth.
"You're awakening."
Shane turned around to see a figure on the other side of the clearing. It was tall and seemingly human. Its masculine voice sounded unfamiliar.
"Who... are... you?" Each word was stressed and strained. They felt like lava pouring out of her mouth.
"Please, don't stress yourself so much. Talking during this phase is never easy. So please, take it slow." The figure approached her slowly, hands raised defensively. "I'm not here to hurt you, Shane. I'm just here to talk."
"How do you-"
"I've known about you for a long time, Shane, a very long time, but I haven't been able to approach you until now. I was hoping your awakening would begin sooner, but here we are. Please, sit down. The pain will subside soon."
Shane collapsed onto the ground against her own will. It felt like someone had pushed her down, and she knew exactly what that meant.
This thing wasn't human.
"Shane, I want to make you an offer. I want to help you."
Shane felt the pain slowly die down, making her feel comfortable enough to talk. "Why would you want to help me? Who are you?"
"I'm a friend, Shane. I'm a friend to creatures like you. Your type can be one of two things: good or evil. And it's up to you to decide. But you need to decide soon. Before the full transformation begins. After that...," He sighed, "it's too late."
"Why should I trust you? And... how do I decide?"
"Shane, dear, I'm surprised the Winchester boys let you live this long. I've run across them a few times now, and it's never been pleasant for me-"
"Probably cause you're a monster."
He chuckled. "You have no idea who I am do you?"
"Would I have asked who you were if I knew?"
"I'm a very particular, um, creature. Im called a Trickster."
Shane turned toward the man, some slight recognition clicking in her brain. She was blinking furiously, attempting to clear her vision.
"Everything looks red, doesn't it? Hmmm... You haven't gotten anything else physically except for the eyes... You're a slow waker, huh?"
"What do you want?!" Shane heard a metallic, almost growl, tint to her voice.
"Relax! Jeeze. Like I said, I want to help. You're going to be approached a lot by many beings now that you're awakening. So, I want to give you some advice. Demons are deceitful, and hunters...," He sighed, "hunters are enemies."
"What are you talking about?! Just give me a straight answer!"
"Shane, I've seen enough of your kind die over my lifetime, that I don't care to see it happen again. You want to survive? Isolate yourself. You can't trust anyone. Just run. Get somewhere safe and hide there until it's over. When it's over, they can't hurt you. But you have to trust me."
"Trust a trickster? That doesn't sound smart to me."
"I've seen many Blood Sears come and go, Shane. Don't be one of them. Hide. When it's over you'll be safe."
"When what's over?! How do I decide?!"
With that, the figure disappeared. Shane sat baffled, the pain clearing up slightly. But nothing made sense. She was terrified. What was going to happen to her? What was she going to become?
She could still hear Dean calling her name. Isolate yourself. She thought. She looked around and thought for one last second. Then she decided and started running. She couldn't stay with the winchesters anymore. She was a monster to be, and she wouldn't hurt her friends.
She pushed past the tears and just kept running into the dark woods, leaving the rest of the world in her dust. She had to hide before something happened.
She couldn't hurt Sam and Dean.
----------------
Dean ran to the clearing, out of breath. He needed to fine Shane. He couldn't lose her again. Not just after he got her back. He couldn't lose her. He wouldn't lose her.
He looked for any sign of her. The foot prints had disappeared just before the clearing. He searched the ground for more prints.
He kept looking and looking. That's when he saw it. A single, solitary, metallic, black scale sitting in a pile of pine needles with a few drops of blood near by. The blood drops made a trail leading away from the clearing. Shane was awakening. He knew what that meant. Everything out there was going to be after her and he had to find her first. He didn't want to admit it, but he knew it was true.
He had to hunt Shane.
