Dirk's alarm buzzed at 6:00 AM, shattering the peaceful silence of his room. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he groggily hit the snooze button, only to jolt awake moments later, a sense of unease prickling at his skin. It was as if the air itself carried a foreboding weight, urging him to be alert.
Pushing the feeling aside, Dirk stumbled through his morning routine, the mundane tasks tinged with a subtle sense of urgency. Something felt off, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. With his backpack slung over one shoulder, he stepped outside, greeted by the pale light of dawn.
Good Shepherd Mission School (GSMS) should have been a hive of activity at this hour, but as Dirk approached, a deep, unsettling quiet greeted him instead. The absence of chatter and laughter hung heavy in the air, setting his nerves on edge.
"Hey, Dirk," a voice called out, jolting him from his thoughts. It was Eeman, her presence offering a small measure of comfort in the eerie stillness.
"Hey, Eeman," Dirk replied, his voice betraying the unease gnawing at him.
Together, they stood in front of the school, waiting for their classmates to arrive. But as the minutes ticked by, it became apparent that something was terribly wrong. The schoolyard remained deserted, devoid of life, save for the two of them.
"This is weird," Dirk muttered, his brow furrowing in confusion. "Where is everyone?"
Eeman checked her phone, her brow furrowing in concern as she scrolled through a flurry of unanswered messages. "There's nothing on the group chat," she said, her voice tinged with worry.
A chill ran down Dirk's spine, a sense of dread settling in the pit of his stomach. "Maybe we should head home and come back later," he suggested, a note of urgency creeping into his voice.
Eeman nodded in agreement, her eyes scanning the empty schoolyard with growing apprehension. "Yeah, let's go."
But as they turned to leave, their footsteps faltered, frozen in place by a sight straight out of a nightmare. Before them, a horde of grotesque figures emerged from the shadows, their vacant eyes fixed on the school with an insatiable hunger.
Zombies.
Panic surged through Dirk as he took in the horrifying scene before him. It was like something out of a horror movie, but this was all too real. Without a moment to spare, he grabbed Eeman's hand, his heart pounding in his chest as they fled from the encroaching horrors.
But little did they know, their harrowing ordeal was just beginning.
