Dani pov:

Waking up, I felt the warmth of the sun shining into the room. Oddly, I wasn't being awakened by a raging toddler. My hand instinctively went to my head, remembering how I had forgotten to wrap my hair before falling asleep last night. To my surprise, my fingers met the smooth silk of my bonnet.

The other side of the bed was still neatly made. I assumed Billie had either slept in the other room or taken herself home last night. Pregnancy always makes me so forgetful and tired—it's like the worst combination.

I got up, slipping on my house shoes and tying my robe as I made my way to Chloe's room. I knocked softly before opening the door, waiting for a response. Hearing none, I carefully opened the door, half expecting to find her still asleep. Instead, I found her bed empty.

The smell of breakfast hit my nose, mingling with the sound of Chloe's voice speaking to someone, muffled by the clatter of pots and pans.

As fast as my feet and my swollen stomach would let me, I hurried downstairs to see what was going on. Holding onto my belly, I reached the last step and found Billie in the kitchen, making breakfast while Chloe sat on the counter, chattering away.

"MOMMY!" Chloe jumped off the counter and ran to me, her excitement radiating through the room. "BB is here! Look, she came back!" she exclaimed, pulling on my pants with glee.

"I know," I said, feeling my anxiety melt away. I bent down to hug her, ruffling her hair gently. "She came last night while you were sleeping. Were you surprised?"

Chloe nodded vigorously, her eyes sparkling. "Yes! BB made pancakes! And bacon! And eggs!" She listed off excitedly, practically bouncing with joy.

Billie looked up from the stove, her face lighting up with a warm smile. "Good morning," she greeted me, her voice filled with affection. "We were supposed to surprise you with breakfast in bed, but someone," she nodded towards Chloe, "couldn't keep quiet."

I chuckled, my heart warming at the scene. "It's the thought that counts," I replied, moving closer to the kitchen and wrapping my robe tighter around me.

"BB can take me to practice too, and I can show her all the stuff I know from basketball. Please, please!" Chloe was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement, her words tumbling out in a rapid stream as she jumped up and down around Billie.

"Yes, yes, I'll take you," Billie said, smiling indulgently as she tried to cook around Chloe's enthusiastic movements.

"Relax Chloe," attempting to calm her down, even though I was paid no mind.

"BB, watch this!" Chloe called out, grabbing her basketball. She started dribbling around the kitchen, her little feet moving with surprising agility. She weaved around chairs and table legs before shooting a perfect layup into her mini basketball hoop.

"Wow, Chlo," Billie said in shock, her eyes wide with admiration. "That was really good!"

"She's just excited for you to be home," I said, watching Chloe shoot more and more shots. "She's never really this wild."

Chloe beamed at the praise, her energy radiating through the room as she dribbled and shot. Her little legs moved with a surprising amount of skill and grace for her age, her concentration evident in the determined look on her face.

"Usually, I don't allow her to do all of this in the house 'cause I don't want her to break something," I added, giving Billie a pointed look. "But I guess I'll let it slide since you're here. Anything she breaks, you pay for."

Billie laughed, a warm, hearty sound that filled the room. "Fair enough," she said, watching Chloe with a mixture of pride and amusement. "I guess it's a small price to pay for a little bit of fun."
