It all starts with a king as every great fairytale does. Though the origin of the story was not the greatest.
The tall magestic man held onto the babe in his arms securely.
"Sire, are you sure?" The guard asked.
"Yes..." The king said solemnly."It is as she requested."
You see upon the land there was a strange plague. It was never a pandemic but would periodically pop up. It would take the life of its victim and vanish as fast as it came. With no trace of where it'd originated. And the queen...got it...knowing that there was no cure she pushed everyone away unaware of if the plague could be infectious.
The king smiled at the young boy and rocked him as a small cough escaped him.

"You're going to be just fine..." He whispered,"Because you can be the greatest...you can be the best! Do it for your people, Do it for your pride, How you ever gonna know if you never even try?"
He walked through a hall lined with his successors. Each one proud of what they'd accomplished. He smiled at the painting of him and his wife and looked back to his son.
"Do it for your country, Do it for you name
'Cause there's gonna be a day When your, standing in the hall of fameAnd the world's gonna know your name 'Cause you burn with the brightest flame And the world's gonna know your name, And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame..."

...18 years later...
The raven colored horse soared over the trail as the brunette on top cried, "Heya!"
The girls curls glistened in the sunlight making a rippling effect.
The horses eyes glanced up, he enjoyed his rider she was entertaining. He looked forward down the path and rushed faster.
The glint in her eyes seemed to sparkle.
"Tavin," the girl said calmly.
The horse stopped immediately. And looked around.
The girl jumped off and looked at the strange item in their way. It looked like a glass box with golden edging. She walked around it. There was no top to it, just the glass walls that only stood about a foot high.
SNAP!
She looked up to see her magestic steed somehow suspended in by air, caught in an impressively tough net.
The horse flailed in annoyed protest.
"I'll get you Tavin just, stay calm." She said calmly.
"Don't step on that." A worried voice made her jump back around. There was a thin male, he rushed to the glass box to look at the plants inside, "This is a class B organic situan plant, it helps heal deep cuts and eases infection. It's endangered."
This boy was already an annoyance.
"So I assume...this was your doing?" The unimpressed girl gestured to the glass.
"Yes, you'd be correct." He said making sure to water the plant.
"Uh, huh...and the net?" She gestured to her equally unimpressed steed.
"That's to stop moose from eating the plant..." He laughed.
"And you know how to get him down?" The girl folded her arms.
"Of course I do!" The dirty blond protested before pausing.
A small white cat rubbed up against the boys leg and looked up at him.
"Okay...actually I don't...I just wanted to protect the plant...I'm Jayden by the way." He smiled and offered his hand.
The girl rolled her eyes and turned to climb up the tree that the horse was now suspended in.
"What are you doing?" Jayden asked.
"Fixing your mess." She said gently stepping on the branch the horse was suspended from.
"Let me help."
"You've done enough," She gently began to saw at the branch with a knife she kept in her boot, she tried not to cit too deeply. She didn't want to break the branch just cut it enough to give a little, to bring them closer to the ground, "you know your actions have consequences." She said as the branch gently lowered. She jumped off the branch and took her knife to the ropes helping the horse out.
Jayden had heard that before, "I know that. But somethings you just don't think about."
"No some things you don't think through." She sighed helping Tavin up.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I need to make it to my audience with the king. I'm late." She held onto the reins of her horse.
"The king? Oh I live at the palace, I can get you there." Jayden smiled,"i actually know a short cut, follow me." He picked up the cat and set it on his shoulder.
This strange boy must be a herb grower for the kingdom. He was a inconvenience in her path but she decided to ignore that and follow him what was the worse that could happen?
~*scene change*~
The boy stepped into the light, "see? a short cut." He smiled.
"What exactly was that?" She asked as she took his hand. He helped her out of the hole.
"A smuggling tunnel out of the palace." He smiled,"common." He let her go and she followed.
Tavin tried to follow.
"You gotta stay here buddy." She smiled,"I'll be back."
She followed him as they entered the palace and manovered inside the large and complex building. With how well this boy knew the castle she was beginning to question what his job was.
Jayden opened a big pair of doors.
"Jayden! where have you been?" The king asked.
"Out." He shrugged.
"You need a guard with you at all times you understand that? You are a prince!" The king protested.
The guards snickered. It's not like anything the king said was ever taken seriously by Jayden.
Oh gosh...this was the prince...and she'd lectured him about his actions...
Jayden rolled his eyes, "I found someone in the woods. She would like to request an audience with you."
The king peered around his son to see the girl, "very well."
Jayden sat at the right hand of his father.
"Your name?"
"Sir...My name is Chey."
"And what would you like...Chey?"
"I've come to serve as a knight in your kingdom." She humbly bowed.
The king gently coughed as he covered his mouth, he couldn't handle how hilarious that was.
"I'm sorry, perhaps I didn't hear you right? You do realize...you're female."
Chey glared and drew her sword, "choose your best fighter...if I can't win...I'll leave...if I win...you let me be a knight."
The king made a swift motion and one of the men smiled and stepped forward, "if you survive."
Chey smirked and got into a defensive position,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEG4xZUP2qo
"I won't just survive, Oh, you will see me thrive." She ducked as the man lunged at her she stuck out her foot tripping him.
"Can't write my story. I'm beyond the archetype!" She lunged at him and he blocked it with a smirk.
"I won't just conform. No matter how you shake my core 'Cause my roots, they run deep, oh!" Their swords clung together switching between attack and defense.
"Oh, ye of so little faith Don't doubt it, don't doubt it!" The man swung his sword down.
"Victory is in my veins I know it, I know it And I will not negotiate I'll fight it, I'll fight it!" She jumped up dodging the sword.
"I will transform!" She jumped onto the sword.
"When, when the fire's at my feet again!" She swung her leg knocking the man in the chest knocking him over.
"And the vultures all start circling
They're whispering, you're out of time
But still, I rise!" The man on the ground swiped Chey's feet out from under her knocking her down.
"This is no mistake, no accident!" She glared and rolled over looking up.
"When you think the final nail is in, think again Don't be surprised, I will still rise!" The man jumped to his feet and ran for his sword.
"I must stay conscious Through the madness and chaos..." she looked over at her sword, just past it was the king. She watched as he turned his head and coughed.
"So I call on my angels They say
Oh, ye of so little faith..." She grabbed her sword and blocked the man right as he swung down. But her eyes were still on the king, he had orange spots on his neck...that couldn't be good.
"Don't doubt it, don't doubt it, Victory is in your veins." She kicked the man in the groin making him stumble forward.
"You know it, you know it And you will not negotiate!" She did a back roll back to her feet and grabbed her sword and turned right as the man got to his own sword finally recovering.
"Just fight it, just fight it And be transformed 'Cause when, when the fire's at my feet again, And the vultures all start circling!" They circled each other examining each others every move, the way they flinched even the way she breathed.
"They're whispering, you're out of time But still, I rise. This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in, think again. Don't be surprised, I will still rise
Don't doubt it, don't doubt." The man lunged at her and with a smirk she sheathed her sword. She grabbed his weapon with both hands astonishing the man and making him observe her chainmail gloves.
"Oh, oh, oh, oh, You know it, you know it
Still rise, Just fight it, just fight it" the man tried to pull his sword away from her, but she held on tight. He tugged harder frustrated, during his strongest pull she let go. The hilt of his sword slammed into his chest knocking the air outta him as he stumbled backwards. She unsheathed her sword and placed a foot on his chest pointing her sword at him.
"Don't be surprised, I will still rise!" Out of breath Chey looked at the king.
Jayden smiled, that was both impressive and gutsy. her tactics were interesting and unusual.
"That was impressive," the king stood and gently coughed.
A darkly clothed man from the corner brought him a glass of water which seemed to soothe him.
"But we have no room in the guard...for a girl...I'm sorry we have a very traditional kingdom and having a female-"
Chey felt her heart break and looked down.
"Dad?" Jayden stood. "You want me to have a personal guard, correct?"
"Prince Jayden," the king tried to oppose.
"Look she's nimble and cunning, fast enough to keep up with me."
Chey looked up meeting the princes eyes. How had she not noticed how deep blue they were before? She blushed at his kindness.
He stepped forward and stood by her, "You taught me to make my own choices. She shall be my guard." He looked at her,"I have a feeling I'll learn a thing or two from her." He smiled.
The king realizing the connection the two had smiled and nodded, "very well."
~*scene change*~
The king stood by the window and smiled as he watched his son lead the girl to where she would be staying. It was a small brick building by the side of the palace. She couldn't stay with the other guards being a female and all, so this would be perfect for her.
He was impressed, it wasn't everyone who would handle his sons excentrics.
He looked at the painting of him and his wife. "I know, Oulinn, she's strong." Even with her gone it helped him to talk to her.
"She'd make a strong queen...let's see what happens." He began to cough.
~*scene change*~
"So I stay in here?" Chey blinked pointing to the small brick cottage.
"It has every accommodation for you to live comfortably." Jayden said logically smiling at her.
Chey nodded, not being much of a talker she decided to just go with it...plus...her face felt like it was burning, why was that exactly? Probably because she'd thrown a fit at this kid and he either decided to be nice enough to see through that, or he wanted to push her around as a servant. She wasn't sure yet.
"So...Chey, is that short for something?" Jayden asked opening the door for her.
"Um, yeah...my mother named me Chase." She said softly looking down.
Wow, she was a girl, it was interesting to see a soft side to her. "Did your mom think she had a boy or something?" He didn't mean for it to come out rude, it was a general curiosity.
"Do you always speak so blunt?" Chey asked giving him a look as she put her small bag on the bed. She didn't have very many things.
Jayden just nodded with his ever innocent smile.
Chey sighed heavily, "my mother named me Chase because she wanted her child to always remember to chase their dreams...it's not the most feminine, but that's okay...my name has been a constant reminder to keep working for the things I want. What about you why Jayden?"
"My mothers favorite birds were blue Jays. I didn't know her...but my dad always told me he wanted to see me spread my wings and fly." He chuckled.
Chey smiled at him, "why did you want me as your guard?" She folded her arms.
"well...I owe you."
"For?"
"Trapping your horse, who is over there." He smiled gesturing to a horse stall attached to the small brick cottage.
Tavin whinnied and went back to eating the glorious food set out for him by othwr guard.
"You didn't have to-"
"I know..." Jayden smiled, "but I wanted to." He met her gaze, "goodnight." His blue eyes shined in the dim light as he turned away.
Chey watched as the boy walked off.
Deep blue
~*scene change*~
In the morning they were riding horses through the woods, they were going to check on the herbs and plants. They had healing properties that Jayden was using and studying to better himself.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i0gz1sVs4w
There were times we would ride 'til the sun broke, Through the black of the night on a wide road
She jumped off the horse and looked at the amazing colored plants around her.
Paved in dreams that led me back to you
Lit a spark in the dark, gave me no choice
"These are Unibells, they are a white flower that droops down like a bell, they give off a scent that'll clear the sinuses." Jayden told her, picking a few of the flowers.
In the night you're a light in the white noise
Suddenly, my heart said something new
He looked up at her and smiled as she held the basket for his plants, "thank you." He said with his eyes sparkling. Chey rolled her eyes and tried not to blush. Something inside her was changing.
In your eyes, I swear I feel forever And I'm falling into the deepest part of you. In your eyes, I feel my heart surrender As your love breaks through. I'm lost inside your deep blue, Inside your deep blue, Inside your deep blue. It's farely obvious that a few weeks are passing by.
~*scene change*~
"What is this?" Chey asked looking around.
"My Dad calls it the Hall of Fame, it's got all the most super men who have ever lived." Jayden said looking around at the line of kings he decended from.
Passing clouds, skipping stars when I got you In your arms cover scars like a tattoo
Rescue me and put back all the pieces. How did I miss the times that you came through?
"Wow," Chey said amused, "super men?" She eyed the picture of the current king and his late wife. It was a beautiful painting.
"Yeah, my dad likes that word, he wants me to be 'super'." Jayden chuckled and walked over to her side.
"You look like her." Chey said, "what's that?" She pointed to the building of the people in the painting.
"That's the old church on West Point street. That's where they were married. Honestly it's so old it should probably be condemned but...theres some nostalgia there." He looked at her.
When every glance was a chance I was blind to? Now I see you're everything I needed
"Well," Chey looked away from him and pulled out a book, "I supposed this is a good place to begin your history studies."
Jayden sighed, "history is not my best subject."
In your eyes, I swear I feel forever And I'm falling into the deepest part of you. In your eyes, I feel my heart surrender As your love breaks through They sat down and began his studies.
I'm lost inside your deep blue I'm lost inside your deep blue Inside your deep blue Inside your deep blue
"So this...plague has been around for a century and no one knows what causes it?"
"It says the first signs of it were during King Grunthers reign, but he also signed the treaty with King Wellhouse of Wellmore," she continued.
"You know I'm not interested in that. I'm a physician...I'm not a king..." Jayden sighed laying on the floor and staring up at the ceiling.
"You're going to be king someday..." she closed the book thinking about the spots she'd seen on the kings neck. He was sick...with the same plague that'd taken many she loved.
"Not anyday soon, so." Jayden laughed.
"You don't know that." Chey said in a soft yet firm tone.
"Chase?" Jay sat up looking at her, "what are you not telling me?"
"Look I saw orange spots on your dads neck, the same kind talked about in the plague. He's not going to live forever." Chey said.
"How dare you...you don't know anything about him." Jay said, insulted that she would question his medical opinion.
"I know what I saw, Jayden!" Chey snapped back.
"Oh yeah? And what would you know about it?" He stood as did she. "You don't have any knowledge of being a physician to make these kinds of accusations."
"I know because it was the same thing that took my parents!" Chey shouted.
Jayden was starting to panic, her parents dead? "No! You didn't have it! It could be something different, something I can cure." accused her, she didn't go through it, she couldn't understand the details.
"I DID have it!" Chey shook, "obviously not as severely...but it doesn't matter..." she shoved the book into his hands and turned to storm out.
Jaydens mind raced a million miles an hour. Could his dad really be sick? How had he not noticed? He had to figure out if Chey was telling the truth about what she'd seen. How could she just say something like that? He needed to get the facts, he needed to talk to his dad...
~*scene change*~
"How could he be so blind?!!" Chey kicked a bucket of water.
Tavin huffed and kicked his foot. That was his water.
"Sorry it's just, he gets to me..." Chey sighed.
Tavin made a winning sound and raised his eyebrows flirtatiously.
Chey pushed his face away and smiled rolling her eyes, "not like that, I mean. I've only known him for a few weeks."
Tavin rolled his eyes as to say, 'that wouldn't stop true love.'
"Oh common I am not a princess, I am not a fairytale I'm just his guard." Chey said sitting down on the bucket now. What exactly was she feeling...honestly it hadn't been that long since she'd met him but she felt like she'd known him forever. And she'd ruined everything by yelling.
Tavin took a few steps forward and lowered his head to let her know he was there.
"I messed everything up...even if we are just friends I yelled at him...a prince. And I've lost my best friend...I have to make it up to him...but how?"
Tavin let out a neigh.
She smiled, "you're right. I can do that...I just hope it's enough."
~*scene change*~
"You wished to see me?"Jay forced a smile as he walked into his fathers study.
"Yes, come in." The king said not looking up from his papers, as he sat at his desk.
"What do you need sir?" He asked but that didn't seem to get his attention, "dad?"
"I wanted to talk about your birthday banquet." He gently coughed. The same darkly clothed man rushed to his aid with water in hand.
"Father we don't need-"
"I am inviting all eligible women." The king interrupted.
"For what?" Jayden protested.
"You are turning 20, it is time you have a wife. Look we're financially sound so it doesn't matter who-"
"But sir!" Jayden took a step forward.
"You will be king soon, Jayden," his father looked up.
"Not unless you plan on leaving me soon," Jayden put his hands on his dads desk with a bit of force.
"Jayden," the king softened his voice.
"Are you sick?" Jayden asked, the emotion causing his voice to shake.
"Jay-"
"Are You?!" He asked stronger.
"No."
"Lower your collar..." Jayden said softly.
"What?" The king backed his chair out.
"LOWER YOUR COLLAR!" Jayden said with tears in his eyes threatening to fall. He'd lost his mother...he couldn't lose his father. There was so much emotion in him. The fear of losing his best friend and only family, the anger of being lied to.
The king lowered his collar clearly revealing the orange spots.
"You lied to me..." Jayden backed away, "she was right..."
"Who was right? Jayden?" He stood as his son stumbled backward out of the room.
Jayden closed the door behind him and leaned against it,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEG4xZUP2qo
"Clearly I'm a genius. If she only knew it
But somewhere in her radius I really blew it." He stepped towards the window, looking down at the horses.
"I know, I know what I said to her And know what I did. What I don't know is how I could ever be
So incredibly stupid?" He closed his eyes and sighed.
"You don't really need to know every last detail. Its hardly worth telling." He started to walk down the hall.
"Suffice to say I said that I would be there
I never came through...Maybe I'm a genius and She just don't see it?" he began to walk down the stairs feeling stupid and embarrassed, why hadn't he listened?
"I fronted, I should have admitted, She saw right through it. I never thought that I could be So underhanded. Somehow I've cornered the market on The double standard." He got to the front door and sighed.
"You don't really need to know every last detail. It's hardly worth telling
Suffice to say I said that I would be there I never came through For this act of genius And so many others I know I should apologize And see how it goes..." he opened the door and looked to her place of residence.
"What am I waiting for? Come on, come on, come on, come on." He began to walk towards it.
"To all of the geniuses..."
Jayden sighed and wiped his eyes.
"Are...are you crying?" The voice made Jayden jump. He spun around seeing Chey.
He looked down feeling the shame now, "You were right...my dad's sick...I don't know what to do Chase, I'm not super I can't be a super-what are those?" Jayden blinked seeing her holding a boquet of flowers, it seemed a little out of character for her.
"Oh um...when I was little these flowers would always make me feel better, brighten my day and whatnot..." She nervously thrust the flowers into his hands. "Maybe they're good at healing?" She said awkwardly turning red.
"You got me healing flowers?" He clarified in a bit of a teasing tone.
"Sure!"
"Any reason you picked them instead of letting them grow?" Jayden smirked.
"Well I just thought ya know, I hope unlike the flowers you're not cut down in your youth and your corpse used as a display of affection." Chey stammered. Realizing how crazy creepy that sounded she smiled awkwardly, "I gotta go....now..." She rushed off.
The white cat purred and rubbed up against Jaydens leg. Jayden smiled and knelt down holding the flowers in one hand and petting the cat with the other, "You think she likes me?"
The cat meowed.
"I think....I think I'd like that..."
~*scene change*~
Chey got to the stables and practically panted. She leaned up against the wall of the stable. Her heart wasn't pounding from running it was...Jayden? How had this annoying know it all steal her heart? And why couldn't she figure out what to say to tell him?!!
Tavin nudged her shoulder.
"I know," Chey groaned to Tavin as she leaned her head against the back of the stable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fBDYRHusTw
"Hey! my fists are tight and I'm afraid 'Cause I cannot, I cannot explain." She ran her hand along her ponytail.
"Your heart is like a hurricane, But can't you see I'm so in pain Guess I'm not 'cause I don't talk And then you write me off again," she flicked her wrist as she sighed taking a step forward.
"And I don't think you understand at all," she walked past Tavin but looked back at him over her shoulder.
"I don't wanna use my mouth, Don't know how to spell it out..." Tavin stepped forward and leaned his head against Cheys.
"Every time I try, it sucks! I just wish you could open me up!" She gently scratched his chin.
"And see-e-e-e all the confusion And the love, the hurt, the wrong words I'm using. 'Cause tonight, it feels like." She let go of Tavin and spun.
"Like you don't know my heart You, you don't know, you don't know my heart
Feels like eh you don't know, you don't know my heartYou, you don't know, you don't know my heart Feels like eh!"
~*scene change*~
Chey peaked at Jayden from around a corner and sighed confused and frustrated with her feelings.
"Why, you say I never really see, That it's only ever about me? Like I don't listen when you speak." When Jayden turned to look she hid behind the corner of the wall and leaned against it.
"Like it doesn't kill me when your tears fall out And I cannot catch it And I do not have the perfect expression..." She sunk down the wall in self doubt.
"And I don't think you understand at all, I don't wanna use my mouth! Don't know how to spell it out Every time I try, it sucks! I just wish you could open me up And see-e-e-e all the confusion And the love, and the hurt, the wrong words I'm using 'Cause tonight, it feels like! Like you don't know my heart!"
~*scene change*~
She looked through her clothes, trying to figure out what to wear to that dang ball...would he even notice?
"You, you don't know, you don't know my heart You don't know, you don't know my heart You, you don't know, you don't know my heart Like you don't know my Feels like eh." She tossed outfit after outfit behind her.
"Like you don't know my Feels like eh You don't know, you don't know my heart You don't know, you don't know my heart
Feels like eh, eh, eh, eh." She smiled pulling out the perfect dress.
~*scene change*~
She stood at the top of the stairs and fixed her hair blushing just hoping to be beautiful just this once. She took her first step down the stairs.
"I don't wanna use my mouth, Don't know how to spell it out Every time I try, it sucks...I just wish you could open me up..."
Jayden turned to see what everyone was looking at. Ch...Chase?
"And see all the confusion And the love, the hurt, the wrong words I'm using, 'Cause tonight, it feels like! Like you don't know my heart feels like eh! You don't know, you don't know my heart feels like eh! You don't know, you don't know my heart feels like eh!"
'Wow...' Jayden thought, 'she's...perfect' He didn't realize that she had this side of her.
Chey smiled and walked down the stairs; when she got to the bottom she curtsied, "highness."
"Wow, Chase, just..." he didn't know what to say. "You look..."
"Yes?" She asked seeing his surprise.
He smiled charmingly, "beautifully handsome," he offered his hand.
Chey smiled and shook her head, and went to take is hand when a much younger girl tugged on his coat tails.
"I wanna dance with the prince!" She batted her eyelashes.
Jayden looked at Chey sheepishly who smiled at him and nodded him off.
He was pulled by the 11 yr old to the dance floor who then proceeded to dance on his feet.
Chey smiled and followed the beauty of the room looking at everything, it was all so rich in culture and...unity.
"Is that your girlfriend?" The young girl asked Jayden.
"Um," He blushed, "No, actually she is my guard."
"What's she guarding you from? Love~~~~~~?"
"No."
"Do you looooooooove her~~~~?"
"I don't know!"
"Could you love her?"
That question made him blush, "...you ask a lot of questions."
"You gonna ask her to dance next?" The kid asked.
Jayden rolled his eyes, smiling. "Oh hush, just enjoy the dance okay?"
~*scene change*~
Chey stood outside the ballroom she stood on a wide balcony that overlooked the kingdom. She smiled seeing how beautiful it all was...that's when she began to doubt herself.
"Chey," Jayden closed the doors behind him as he stepped outside.
"Jayden," she responded stepping towards him.
"I have something to tell you-" they spoke in unison.
"You first," Jayden insisted with a small smile.
"You're the prince, you first," she blushed fixing her hair.
He sighed and looked down, "I tried to tell you sooner but, You were right...about my dad. He's sick and I don't know how to help him."
Chey could hear the vulnerability in his voice yet didn't know how to help.
"I just-" Jayden turned away,"I'm not this super man or prince he wants me to be." He walked away. "Not to mention the things I said to you, I'm sorry about your parents."
"Jayden, I get it you were hurting." Chey said with understanding.
"I'm just a screw up and...nobody's going to want me." He seemed broken from the pressure of his future.
"Are you that blind, Jayden?" Chey asked, astonished. "
Jayden sat on the edge of the fountain and looked up. "I'm not following."
Chey sighed and took a few steps forward. Her heart felt like it was thundering out of her chest and with her nerves in her throat she looked down to the right and gently hugged herself to provide encouragement. She took a small breath. And began to sing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO_PvCyiOTg
"I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you...I don't need you to search for the proof that I should. You don't have to convince me..." She sat down next to him.
"You don't have to be scared you're not enough 'Cause what we've got going is good..." She looked in the opposite direction from him, blushing.
"I don't need more reminders of all that's been broken. I don't need you to fix what I'd rather forget...Clear the slate and start over." Jayden looked up, her voice was calming and it made him realize...maybe there was more between them?
"Try to quiet the noises in your head We can't compete with all that, heh." She chuckled embarrassed.
"So what if it's us? What if it's us
And only us?" With her heart pounding she gripped the edge of the fountain in fear and freedom from her feelings.
"And what came before won't count anymore or matter? Can we try that? What if it's you And what if it's me" She stood up her back facing him, she hugged herself tightly terrified of his response.
"And what if that's all that we need it to be? And the rest of the world falls away What do you say?"
Jayden watched her and lit up unable to stop himself from smiling. He stood and returned the song.
"I never thought there'd be someone like you who would want me!"
Chey blushed and turned to look at him, "Well?"
"So I give you ten thousand reasons to not let me go," He took a step towards her meeting her eyes.
"But if you really see me? If you like me for me and nothing else." He took both of her hands.
"Well, that's all that I've wanted for longer that you could possibly know!!!" He spun her a round they both laughed in happiness as he did.
"So it can be us, It can be us, And only us
And what came before won't count anymore or matter. We can try that!" He smiled gently pulling her closer.
"It's not so impossible" She joined him in singing.
"Nobody else but the two of us here," He rubbed his nose against hers making her giggle.
"'Cause you're saying it's possible!" They sang in unison.
"We can just watch the whole world disappear!" She smiled staring into his blue eyes.
"'Til you're the only one I still know how to see!"
"It's just you and me!" He sang as she squeezed his hands.
"It'll be us, It'll be us And only us!" Jayden pulled her along gently as she sang, and lead her back into the ballroom. "And what came before won't count anymore!"
"We can try that! You and me!" They danced in the middle of the ballroom getting swept up and lost in the moment and each other.
"That's all that we need it to be And the rest of the world falls away And the rest of the world falls away The world falls away The world falls away...And it's only us~"
They smiled at each other. Her hazel eyes deep enough to swim in and his blue shined enough to make the sky look dull.
Jayden smiled and looked down as he let her go.
"I suppose I need to talk to my father." He chuckled.
"Wai-"
"Its okay..." He smiled reassuredly,"it'll be perfect."
As he walked away Chey smiled and twirled everything felt so wonderful, nothing could possibly spoil this moment.
Jayden made his way to the staircase, his father stood at the top; away from everyone just watching from the balcony.
"Wanna dance?" A shorter girl with long curly blonde hair asked grabbing his arm.
"Actually, I must talk to the king." Jayden explained trying to pull away.
"Sad, well it's a shame about the king, I coulda helped." She let him go.
"What?" Jayden turned to face her.
"Oh nothing." The girl spun around walking away.
Jayden pushed through the crowd and grabbed her, "What do you mean?"
"Its just...he's sick isn't he? And you're going take over the kingdom. But you're much too young." She smiled.
"You said you can help. How?" Jayden said sternly.
"I can heal him...but in exchange I need something from you." She smiled with a dark twinkle in her eye.
"Anything..." Jayden said. "For my father's life I'll do anything..."
Chey looked at the buffet she snuck a chocolate and popped it into her mouth. She couldn't help but twirl, sure it was a bit silly, she couldn't help it she was so happy.
"My dear guests. I would like to inform you that tonight my son has met his true love." The king said from his balcony.
Chey gently fixed her hair as she tried to get to the bottom of the stairs.
Jayden stepped forward standing by his father, "I'd love for you all to meet my future bride...Emilie."
Chey took a step forward before the reality of what happened sunk in. What?
The blonde stepped forward.
"She will make an excellent queen and partner-" Jayden said. He continued on about how amazing she was but honestly Chey felt light headed. She couldn't think clearly or even process his words...

"I'm jealous...I'm overzealous. When I'm down I get real down When I'm high, I don't come down, " She took a step back unable to blink. Unable to wake up.
"I get angry. Baby, believe me. I could love you just like that. And I could leave you just this fast" She turned and humiliatedly pushed through the crowd. She got to the door and slipped out of the room.
"But you don't Judge me 'Cause if you did, baby I would judge you too" She closed her eyes trying to not let a single tear fall.
"No, you don't judge me 'Cause if you did, baby I would judge you too." She took a step forward clenching her hands.
"'Cause I got issues! But you got 'em too! So give 'em all to me, And I'll give mine to you." She got faster and faster until it was a run.
"Bask in the glory Of all our problems. Cause we got the kind of love It takes to solve 'em. Yeah, I got issues. And one of them is how bad I need you!" she ran to her residence and shut the door behind her.
"You do stuff on purpose. You get mad and you break things, Feel bad, try to fix things" she leaned her back against the door and looked at her feet.
"But you're perfect, Like a wild circus
And got hands like an ocean"
She stepped forward finding the strength.
"Push you out, Pull you back in" she looked in the mirror and found a ribbon tying her hair back up into place.
"'Cause you don't Judge me 'Cause if you did, baby I would judge you too
No, you don't judge me 'Cause you see it from the same Point of view" she dug through her dresser.
"'Cause I got issues! But you got 'em too. So give 'em all to me, And I'll give mine to you!" she backed away from the mirror wearing her guard outfit once again.
"Bask in the glory, Of all our problems" She walked outside with her sword towards the training grounds. "'Cause we got the kind of love It takes to solve 'em. Yeah, I got issues And one of them is how bad I need you!"
"And one of them is how bad I Need you
'Cause I got issues But you got 'em too So give 'em all to me And I'll give mine to you. Bask in the glory, Of all our problems!" She swung her sword at the dummies. Slashing off a straw arm and head.
"'Cause we got the kind of love It takes to solve 'em. Yeah, I got issues And one of them is how bad I need you. Yeah, I got issues, And one of them is how bad I need you, Yeah, I got issues" she spun around throwing her dagger making a bullseye on the target of one dummies chest.
"And one of them is how bad I need you..." She sighed heavily and let her shoulders droop.
Thats when a light flickered on. She glanced up to look up at the castle. One of the rooms was lit up by torch light. There was the darkly clothed man who was always by the king. And...that looked like Emilie? Something wasn't right. None of this was right. She sheathed her sword and rushed back into the castle.

"How did it go?" Edmond smirked in his usual shifty fashion.
"Flawlessly, but that's only thanks to you." Emilie purred as she ran her fingers through her blonde hair.
"Speaking of thanks to me-"
"Do not forget your place." Emilie snapped.
"You've only come this far thanks to me." Edmond hissed.
"Don't forget your usefulness is almost at its peak, if you really wish to test me." Emilie threatened.
"Yes, my mistress." He bowed humbly and held out a chalice, "the kings celebration glass. One more drop and he shall be too sick too attend anything else."
Emilie slipped a vial out of her bodess and gently poured one drop into it.
Chey covered her mouth and gently backed away from the crack in the door.
They were evil, they both were! And they were poisoning the king. She had to tell Jayden, they could fix this, but they had to think fast.
"What was that?!!" Emilie hissed.
Edmond rushed to the door, "probably that little brat who's always around the prince."
Emilie smirked,"don't worry. She won't be a problem for much longer...."

Chey panted out of breath as she snuck back into the ball. She had to find him. Where was he where? She peaked over person, scanning through the crowd for some kind of answer of where he might be.
Ah-ha! She pushed through. He was by the punch bowl. She had to get to him! It couldn't wait.
"Jayden! Highness." She pushed through getting squished and stepped on along the way.
"Chase, there you are." Jayden said,"we need to talk." He said grabbing her hand and pulling her out of the ballroom back to the outside balcony with the fountain.
"Jayden, I get it Emilies black-mailing you. It's okay, we'll get you out of it." Chey said with a smile.
"What? No, it's not like that." Jayden said.
"Its' not like you actually want to marry her-"
"I think that's my call, not yours, Chase."
"Look, whatever, I didn't come to fight. I saw Emilie with Edmond, they're planning something!"
"Edmond? My father's assistant of 15 years and Emilie my fiancé?" Jayden folded his arms.
"Yes, they're making your father sick on purpose!"
"I don't believe this."
"I know but it's true!" Chey grabbed his upper arms and shook him.
Jayden pushed her off and step back, "You'd make fake accusations for your own personal gain?" Jayden didn't know what to think right now, "Emilie is amazing, she can help save my father. He needs to be king."
How was he not getting this?!! "You'd rather marry someone you can't trust just for a slim chance to save your father?"
"Yes!" Jayden shouted, "You have no sense of responsibility! This is for the happiness of the kingdom."
"Happiness of the kingdom?" She shook her head, "forgive me if I believed your happiness mattered too, I won't make that mistake again." Chey looked down and pushed back into the ballroom surrounded by people. She pushed her way through unable to stop herself from crying this time.
Jayden watched her go and sighed..."I'm better lost..." She sighed heavily and let her shoulders droop.

She pushed her way through unable to stop herself from crying this time.
Jayden watched her go and sighed...

"You and me, we used to be together
Every day together, always..." Jayden looked down.
"I really feel that I'm losin' my best friend
I can't believe this could be the end..."
"It looks as though you're lettin' go..." Chey pushed past people.
"And if it's real, well, I don't want to know! Don't speak, I know just what you're sayin'
So please stop explainin'
Don't tell me 'cause it hurts!
Don't speak, I know what you're thinkin'
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me 'cause it hurts!" Chey knew she needed proof. She got out of the ballroom and snuck through the castle.
"Our memories, well, they can be inviting
But some are altogether mighty frightening..." Jayden sat down on the fountain where the two had bonded earlier that night.
They sang in unison from separate areas. "As we die, both you and I!"
Chey looked in the room where she had seen Emilie and Edmond, maybe there was something in here? "With my head in my hands, I sit and cry!" They both sang.
"Don't speak, I know just what you're sayin'
So please stop explainin'
Don't tell me 'cause it hurts, no, no, no
Don't speak, I know what you're thinkin'
And I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me 'cause it hurts!"Jayden looked into the fountains water seeing his reflection but not recognizing who it was.
Chey found an old chest and opened it.
"It's all ending
We gotta stop pretending
Who we are
You and me
I can see us dyin'"
Finding a book, Chey stuffed it in her jacket.
Chey jumped hearing a sound. She turned to see Emilie and Edmond.
"Aren't we?"
"Get her." Emilie smirked.
Jaydens cat hissed at him making him jump as he turned around. "come now, don't give me that. She left."
The cat meowed in protest.
Chey grunted unconsciously as they locked her in. The room was on the east side of the castle. The wing had never been used for anything but storage...how was she going to get out now?
"Don't speak, I know just what you're sayin'
So please stop explainin'
Don't tell me 'cause it hurts
No, no, don't speak, I know what you're thinkin'
And I don't need your reasons

I know you're good, I know you're good
I know you're real good, oh
La, la, la, la
La, la, la, la
Don't, don't, ooh, ooh
Hush, hush, darling
Hush, hush, darling
Hush, hush
Don't tell me 'cause it hurts
Hush, hush, darling

Don't tell me 'cause it hurts

Jayden sighed as he paced his room.
Frost jumped onto his bed and meowed.
Jayden looked at him, "I know...I know I need to talk to her...later."
The cat shook his head.
"Look I don't know what I was feeling for Chey...thats a lie. But look...if Emilie can save my father then she saves the kingdom...from me. I'm not strong enough to do this, Frost."
the cat took a step forward and meowed again.
"yeah...I miss her too." He sat on his bed and began to pet his cat.
"I don't know how to fix this..."
~*scene change*~
The wedding was planned for 2 weeks after the ball. And now it was fast approaching.
Griffin, the captain of the guard, was only 25 years old. He was a good leader though.
"Sir, you asked to see me?"
"Griffin, you are the captain of the guard, if you see Chase...please." The princes voice broke. "I need to talk to her."
"Yes sir."
~*scene change*~
As Griffin walked the ground with his men patrolling the land for the up coming wedding, he looked around. He saw Tavin...with the other horses.
"Has anyone seen Chey?" He asked his men.
"Not in a few days." One replied.
"More like a week." Another said.
She couldn't have left...she would never leave Tavin. So where was she?
~*scene change*~
Chey stirred in her cell, time seemed to be blurred there. How long had it been? Didn't matter, she looked around, and found was hay. At least it was something to eat and her stomach felt like it was about to implode any minute. She crushed a bit of it before attempting to chew. That would settle her stomach for now.
She looked up seeing the lock on the door. She'd picked a lock like that a million times. She began to look around for something sharp to get herself out of this situation. When she bent over to look under the cot, something fell out.
A book?
Right, this was the book she stole from Emilie and Edmond. It must have something in it. Maybe not to help her escape, but her curiosity was getting the better of her.
She flipped through the book not caring to look for anything specific. But something peaked her interest when she saw Emilies name.
'I believe Emilie is going to try to mutiny. She is out of her mind and doesn't know yet how to control her powers. Perhaps she doesn't even understand the concept of the greater good.' This was...not Emilies journal. Why'd she have it?
Chey scanned a few more pages finding nothing very useful.
That's when the page fell open on a white flower. The ones she'd given Jayden.
Chey read out loud, "The pure lotus flower has proven to have healing elements. It can heal those with the plague.
The sickness begins by turning the skin orange in some places when it starts to turn orange everywhere the limbs will slowly begin to turn purple with decay starting with the toes and fingers."
"You!" The voice made her jump. She stuffed the book into her robes.
"Drink," Edmond entered the room and threw a bowl of water on the ground before slamming the door and locking it again.
~*scene change*~
Jayden looked at himself in the mirror. He didn't want to see himself like this not for a long time...but it was his wedding day. He'd received no word from Chey. And honestly...his heart couldn't be more shattered about it.
Griffin stood in the doorway.
"Yes?" Jayden turned with a smile, his heart leaping. Griffin had to have found her!
"Sir...she's....we've looked everywhere."
Jayden looked down, he felt like he couldn't breathe, "well search again! She has to be somewhere!" His emotions were getting the best of him. Gosh, he couldn't breathe, he loosened his neckerchief.
"Sir, you're shaking." Griffin took a step towards him.
"Track her down!" Jayden demand, "now!"
Griffin nodded and exited the room.
Jayden looked at Frost who meowed at him. He let out a heavy sigh. And turned back to the mirror to fix his hair.
(Warning it's slightly screams for the first couple seconds)

"I'm the kings son you watch me fell
And you're an angel with a haunted heart
If you're smart you'd run and protect yourself
From the demon living in the dark
There's nothing to be gained cause I can never change
And you can never understand this sickness." He opened the door of his room beginning to walk out and towards....his own wedding.
"Save yourself
From a life full of lies and a heart full of pain and sorrow
Save yourself
From the choices I make cause nothing but failure follows me
Save yourself."
Jayden stepped down ready to walk down that isle.
Seeing the concern on his sons face the king put his hand on his shoulder, "it's not too late to back out. If this doesn't make you happy don't go through with it."
Jayden smiled and nodded at his dad, "thanks...but I know what I want."
~*scene change*~
"Never really been down here before..." Griffin mumbled walking the empty corridors of the east corridor.
~*scene change*~
Jayden opened the doors and began to walk down the isle.
"You're the perfect drug when it hurts so well
I've never needed anyone so much
There's no-one else I love and I curse myself
Cause the right thing is to give you up..." he stepped up to the front by the bishop preforming the marriage.
"I'm overcome by shame cause I can never change
And you can never understand my sickness..."
~*scene change*~
Chey heard footsteps, she stayed quiet not trusting who they belonged to.
"Chase?" Griffin whispered.
Upon hearing Griffins voice she jumped up and began banging on the door, "Griffin in here!"
Griffin ran to the door and threw it open, "Chey!"
"Where's Jayden, I have to talk to him! I have to tell-"
"He's getting married today. Chey."
"Where?" Her heart stopped.
"The front grounds by the orchid gardens!" Griffin said.
Chey shoved past him and began to run as fast as she could.
(This is Jayden still singing but you see Chey sprinting to the wedding when he sings it)
"Save yourself
From a life full of lies and a heart full of pain and sorrow
Save yourself
From the choices I make cause nothing but failure follows me
Save yourself!"
~*scene change*~
Emilie emerged and began to walk down the isle as Jaydens throat seemed to sink into his stomach making him feel gross inside.
"From a life full of lies and a heart full of pain and sorrow
Save yourself
From the choices I make cause nothing but failure follows me
Save yourself!!!"
"Do you, Emilie, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"Yes,"
"Do you, Jayden,"
"You'll never understand my sickness..."
"JAYDEN!" Chey ran to the end of the isle out of breath and disheveled.
"Cause i don't understand my sickness..." Jayden blinked bewildered. He looked at his hands holding Emilies and let go.
He turned to the bishop and smiled, "no."
He turned and began to run towards Chey. "Save yourself
From a life full of lies and a heart full of pain and sorrow
Save yourself
From the choices I make cause nothing but failure follows me!"
"Jayden, do you still have the flowers!" Chey asked before being interrupted by Emily.
"I'm trying to SAVE your pathetic lives! If you don't believe me!" Emilie raised her hand and lightning struck.
"Save yourself
From a life full of lies and a heart full of pain and sorrow
Save yourself
From the choices I make cause nothing but failure follows me!!!"
The rain began to fall, it was purple that was odd.
"This rain will give everyone in your palace orange skin...until slowly they die of the sickness."
"Jayden," Chey grabbed hold of Jaydens arm.
"Go save the people. Please!" Jayden said.
Emilie waved her hand creating a bubble for herself. Jayden pulled out his sword and rushed into the bubble to fight.
Chey holding her shield above her head rushed away grabbing people and pulling them under her shield to protect them from the sickness.
~*scene change*~
"You will leave my people alone!" Jayden said with a strong unshakable feature in his voice.
"You don't get to make demands here!" She said as a double edged sword materialized in her hands, "we were supposed to bring balance!" She lunged at him.
He blocked with his sword, "what are you talking about?" He pushed her making her stumble.
"We were supposed to save everyone!" She swung again.
~*scene change*~
Crash! A wooden building crashed due to the violence of the storm.
"What are we going to do?" one of the knights asked.
"We guard the city." Griffin said sternly to his men.
"But how?" Another asked.
"We use our shields, they'll protect us, we go out and bring people back to the palace." Chase instructed.
"Aren't they safe in their houses?"
A wooden pavilion flew away in the storm.
"Point taken..."
"We bring in as many people as we can, you start feeling sick then stay inside." Chey said.
The men of the guard blinked.
"You heard the woman! Go!" Griffin demanded.
Chey held her shield up high and ran into the rain.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jGHowGoC-g
"If I could break away
half of all your pain
I'd take the worst of it and carry you like you carry me," Chey thought of Jayden as she carried one after another with one arm holding her shield high to protect them from the rain.
She rushed out for more. She found a little boy huddled under a table, "common," she smiled helping him out. "You say that you're alright
when tears are in your eyes
We're strong enough for this." She set him down. There was an over hang of the castle that would protect him. It was a huge stone built pavilion that all the guards were rushing to get the people to safety under.
~*scene change*~
"Why won't you go down?!!" Emilie swiped at his feet finally knocking the prince to the ground.
Jayden realizing he still had Cheys gloves slipped them out of his pocket.
"I can do this with or without you, what is it going to be?" She stepped towards him as he hurriedly put on the chainmail gloves.
"Hm...probably without." Jayden smirked.
Emilie let out a scream and thrust her sword at him.
Jayden grabbed hold of it and held on tight.
"What?" She gasped, "no no!!!!!" She screamed trying to yank the sword backwards out of his grasp.
Jayden waited until she was pulling her hardest and let go.
The blonde woman gasped as she took her last breath before collapsing.
Jayden grabbed an abandoned shield as the bubble around him and Emilie vanished exposing him to the rain.
He looked towards the overhang of the castle and his wonderful guard saving so many from the rain.
~*scene change*~
"and I need you
It's okay that you need me." Chey rushed back out into the storm.
"Theres a girl inside the church." A young man called out from being rescued by another guard.
Chey looked at the wobbling church and rushed towards it.
"So put your armor on the ground tonight
'Cause everyone's got to come down sometimes..." she rushed into the church as the roof began to collapse. She grabbed the little girl and protected her.
"You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to be Superman..." as the debris and dust cleared Chey looked at the girl. the rain was falling on her. Chey tried to stand but realized that one of the main poles holding up the building had collapsed onto her leg pinning her in place.
"You don't have to hold the world in your hands
You've already shown me that you can
Don't have to be Superman."
Chey looked at her shield and then the little girl.
~*scene change*~
(Still Chey singing but the focus is on Jayden)
"I know I've been gone too much
We talk about me too much
I'm selfish and distracted
But I'm here, I'm here and I'm listening
And it's just you and me and these four walls
And we are only human after all."
Jayden rushed down, "Griffin report!"
"I have saved 23 and counting." Griffin had orange spots tainting his skin.
Some of the other guards look just as bad and most of them looked like they'd given up. Though they had saved more than their fair share of people.
"I got 5."
"I saved 17."
"What about Chey?" Jayden said, his hopes rising.
"She got over 31..." Griffin told him softly.
"Where is she?'
"Look!" One of the guards yelled as they saw a little girl running to safety with a shield overhead.
~*scene change*~
Chey lay on the ground as the rain fell down, she didn't have the strength to stand any longer and her skin was almost completely orange. She reached her hand towards the sky, "You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to hold the world in your hands
You've already shown me that you can
Don't have to be Superman..."
~*scene change*~
Jayden's heart practically stopped as he rushed towards the little girl, "that's Cheys shield, where did you get that?" He asked worry in his tone.
"West Point church was falling," the little girl pointed, "she's stuck."
"Your highness you wouldn't be able to get out there fast enough." Griffin grabbed hold of Jaydens shoulder.
Jayden took Chey's shield from the little girl, "I have to try."
Thats when they heard a loud whinney and Tavin strode up.
"Um that's nice, but I've never ridden a ho-whoa!!!" Tavin bit Jaydens shirt and threw him onto his back. Jayden held the shield above himself as they rode.
~*scene change*~
Cheys hand fell to the ground as her eyes closed weakly, "And oh
You rest your eyes now, take my hand
Even heroes fall down now and then..." her head fell to the side.
Jayden jumped off the horse and ran to kneel by her side and sang, "You can let it go
You don't have to be Superman..." he caressed her face with one hand holding the shield up over her a tear falling.
"You don't have to be Superman," he lifted her onto the horse and jumped back on holding her securely as they turned and headed back.
"You don't have to hold the world in your hands," he leaned his head against hers as he protected her.
"You've already shown me that you can
Don't have to be Superman
You don't have to be Superman..."
"Jayden," the king tried to comfort his son as the prince jumped off the horse holding Chey.
"Her fingers have turned purple..." Griffin said, "there's nothing we can do."
Jayden ignored them and walked further into the overhang. The help opened the doors into the castle as Jayden continued inward.

"Can't say how the days will unfold
Can't change what the future may hold
But I want you in it
Every hour
Every minute..." he found a couch to lay her on and gently set her down. He stood, the stress killing him. He was going to lose her...just like he'd lost his mother...but this time it felt like it was all his fault.
"This world can race by far too fast
Hard to see while it's all flying past
But it's clear now
When you're standing here now
I am meant to be
Wherever you are next to me..." he stared down at her the tears falling.
"Jayden," his father whispered.
Jayden shrugged him off and began to walk away holding himself.
"All I wanna do
Is come runnin' home to you
Come runnin' home to you
And all my life I promise to..." he stepped into his bedroom to think.
"Keep runnin' home to you
Keep runnin' home to you..." he looked up and saw a bouquet of flowers slowly going bad.
A memory flashed into his mind of Chey, "do you still have the flowers?"
"And I could see it right from the start
Right from the start!" He stood up and grabbed the flowers out of the vase and grabbed a small bowl and rock he used to grind up herbs and plants to use as a physician.
"That you would be, be my light in the dark
Light in the dark." He began to grind up the flower and began to walk back down to Chey.
"Oh, you gave me no other choice but to love you..." he arrived, people had gathered around Chey but they parted when they saw Jayden.
He began to walk down the path that lead to her, "All I wanna do
Is come runnin' home to you
Come runnin' home to you
And all my life I promise to
Keep runnin' home to you
Keep runnin' home, home to you..." he knelt down by her side and gently pushed a hair out of her face.
"Can't say how the days will unfold
Can't change what the future may hold
But I want you in it
Every hour, every minute..." he added a little water to the crushed up flower and smiled softly as a tear fell.
He leaned in and softly whispered into her ear, "I hope..." he laughed slightly, "unlike this flower...you are not cut down in your youth and your corpse used as a display of affection." He gently pressed the bowl to her lips and the liquid slid down her throat.
Everyone held their breath terrified of the outcome.
The silence was louder than anything Jayden had ever heard, it felt like every movement around him was amplified. Except for Chase. She wasn't moving...why wasn't she moving? The orange was beginning to clear.
Chey gasped for air and smiled as she woke up, she chuckled, "Jayden." She looked over at her and smiled.
He caught his breath and wiped his eyes, "Chase."
"I love you." She whispered and pulled him into their first and the most epic kiss.
The king smiled and whispered to himself.
"Oh, Oolinn...if only you were here to see this." His heart was touched. She'd make a great queen someday.
