Wakai's POV
10 years later...
I awoke and rubbed sleep out of my eyes. I couldn't place what had woken me, until my eyes fixed on my (adoptive) brother standing at the foot of my bed. I screamed.
"BUCKY!!!" I yelled at my brother, who was cracking up. "Why are you even... Ohhh." I'd forgotten that it was the day he was leaving for his 12th annual cheer camp. "Yep." He grinned, showing his movie-star smile. "I came to say goodbye, but you wouldn't wake up, so I just... Forcefully woke you up." I glared at him. "How?"
He giggled at my frown. "By yelling in your ear." I threw my pillow at him and it hit his head with a satisfying whump. Bucky raised an eyebrow. I groaned. "Fiiiiine. I'll get up." Bucky gave me jazz hands and left.
I dragged myself out of bed, made the bed, then threw on an outfit not unlike every other outfit in my closet. Seriously, why are all our clothes either pastel pink or blue? I thought, Why can't we wear green, or yellow, or even indigo? I sighed and twisted my hair up into a bun, careful to hide the white streak my parents always warned me about.
It's different, They say, Sameness is key in Seabrook. Even though Addison can parade around with her 'differences'.
"Hi Aunt Patricia! Hi Uncle David!" I heard a cheery voice say. I groaned. Addison. I don't completely hate my perky, everything-is-about-me cousin. But I certainly found her annoying.
"Hi Wakai!" Addison greeted me with a much-too-bright, very fake smile. "Hey Addy." I replied, equally sarcastic. "It's so great to see you!" "You too!" Addison hugged me. "Not." Addison whispered into my ear.
"Bye, Buck!" I called to my brother, who was waiting impaitently by the door. "See you in a week!" He grinned. "Bye Mom! Bye Dad! Byeeeeeeeee 'Kai!" I laughed at my brother, then turned to my parents. "I'm gonna head over to Zed's, okay?" I asked them. "He said he needs my help with something." My parents agreed, but their expressions darkened at the mention of Addison's zombie boyfriend.
I jogged over to zombietown, where Zed was waiting for me with Eliza. "Hey, 'Kai!" Zed called, while Eliza just waved. I waved back. "So Zed, what did you need my help with?" I asked. Zed grinned. "I want to ask Addison to Prawn. But I have no idea how to. I'm not good at that kind of stuff."
I sighed, "Lucky I am. But I want to make this clear. I am doing this for you and only you. Not Addison." Zed frowned. "I just don't see why you guys hate each other. You're so similar!" I snorted. "Believe me, we're not."
"Okay." Eliza interrupted, "So... Any ideas?" I nodded and smirked. "I have a few, in case I was gonna ask someone. But no-one caught my eye, so..." Zed laughed. "No-one good enough for you, Wakai? No-one... perfect enough?" I hit the back of his head, standing on my tiptoes to reach.
"Okay," I said, pulling a plan out of my bag. "I'm not totally sure about the technical engineering though. Liza, will you help me?" The zombie girl nodded and helped me through the details. I nodded, "Okay. All we need is to get the parts. Do you reckon we'd be able to get them from Seabrook Power?" Zed nodded, and we set off towards the old factory.
Once we were there, we began gathering things for Zed's prawnposal. Zed walked over to me, nervous. "Do you think Addy will like it? What if she doesn't? You know what, I don't think she will. This whole thing is stupid, I shouldn't have ever..." I grabbed his face. "Zed, chill out. We got this."
