To complete the initiation, teams of two were required to recover a relic from the abandoned temple and return it to the Beacon Cliffs. However, I was in a predicament as I wasn't paired up with anyone.
I moved cautiously through the dense forest, my senses on high alert. My previous encounter with the Grimm had haunted me. I didn't want a replay of that performance, especially not in my weakened state.
My heart pounded vigorously, surging throughout my veins as I sought to restore my energy. The effort was excruciating—every step felt like I was walking on spikes—but I pressed on as my heart bore the strain.
That was when I found the abandoned temple where the relics were stationed. How lucky. Twenty altars held a chess piece; if one pair was supposed to take one, twenty pairs would be made, with forty participants.
Then, teams of four were formed by combining the pairs with matching relics, creating ten entire teams. But if my memory serves me right, only sixteen of us were at the launching point, so there would have been only four teams.
The additional cheese pieces may be from the previous test. When Yang and Blake arrived, three pieces were already missing. They took the white knight, Ren and Nora took the white bishop, and the irreverent side characters, Cardin and Russel, took the black bishops.
"Hey! It's 'pretty face,' how come you're here without a partner?" Yang asked.
"No one has crossed my path, but I'm sure it won't be an issue. I'll eventually find someone, and it's Kaiser.
"Oh, I know. But the first thing I see is your pretty face," Yang said.
What a hopeless romantic, seizing every opportunity to flirt.
If these six are already paired up, then it's correct to assume that Ruby, Weiss, Jaune, and Pyrrha are.
What a problem. I've already failed at step one of partnering with someone from the main cast. At least now, there won't be a butterfly effect that will significantly impact the story.
But all I needed to do was make eye contact with someone. It was that simple! I'll have to make do with a team of nobodies and accelerate my way up.
"I think that they're arriving soon!" Nora yelled.
Ren looked at her, confused, "What do you mean, Nora?"
There, we heard a swoosh that came through the air at sonic speeds, and we cut to see Ruby and Jaune collide, landing on the ground on top of one another.
"I guess you could say that they "took the fall" for each other," Yang joked. "It was quite a "team-building" exercise. They pilled up on each other like a tower of pancakes!"
All of us looked at her with a straight face, unamused. I forgot about the horrible puns. That's one of the positives of not pairing up with the main cast; I don't have to hear them.
We all heard screaming coming from the sky. Don't tell me Weiss is coming next. Jaune, wanting to play the hero, caught Weiss in his arms but only managed to be a cushion.
Before I could shake my head, I saw Pyrrha running towards us with the Deathstalker, a giant scorpion Grimm, behind her. She got knocked back by it and slid next to our feet.
"Great, everyone's here. Now we can all die together!" Yang said sarcastically.
Upon hearing this, Ruby excitedly ran towards Nevermore and tried to leap at it, only to be slapped by the giant bird. After recovering, she attempted to shoot at it, but all the bullets slid off its shell. Realizing that fighting against it was useless, she ran back towards us.
